TORRES PREMIERES VIDEO FOR “STRANGE HELLOS” VIA NYLON
TORRES knows the darkness. The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter otherwise known as Mackenzie Scott waits until anything-an idea, an emotion, a memory-gnaws at her, tearing at her fingers and throat until she releases it in song. Her husky voice strains against its human biological constraints like a wild-eyed horse, whispering desperately “Don’t give up on me just yet” on one end and yowling about jealousy with unnerving intensity on the other. Following her self-titled debut in 2013, TORRES pushes herself to even noisier extremes on Sprinter, a punishing self-examination of epic spiritual and musical proportions.

MILLIE GO LIGHTLY “POWERTRIP”
Millie Go Lightly (Melissa Griffiths), a 21-year old singer/songwriter, originally hails from Stratford-upon-Avon but is currently based in London where she studies Classics at King’s College. Although her diverse array of skills range from cheerleading to shooting guns at the range, her greatest display of range is in, of course, her music.
The velvet soul of her voice is rich with the balance between strength and fragility, creating intimacy with poetic lyrics and catchy hooks. There’s nothing dainty about her sound, however — it is unique and dirty like Tarantino-esque low-fi Trap.

MINSK NEW SINGLE
With the official unveiling of The Crash & The Draw, the imminent new full-length from Illinois avant sound exhibitionists, MINSK, now less than one month away, today the ear-reapers at Steel For Brains present eighth movement, “The Way Is Through,” for communal ingestion.
23-year-old Dallas singer/songwriter/producer Sudie lets more than just her guard down in her video for “Heartattack.” “As she disrobes, the song submerges itself in its own echos, near-a cappella but for a twinkle of piano that would be extraneous if it weren’t so ginger,” stated Jezebel in their premiere post. “The loss of innocence in the video is mostly about the loss of the innocence of the mind,” Sudie explains. “I didn’t want this to only be about in terms of sexuality, but more as a human being and what comes with growing up out of childhood into adulthood. For me, it was more about how the carefree and insouciant ideology and mental state of a child completely changes as you grow up and take on responsibilities.”

Yebo Music in N. America has inked a deal with Malpas aka songwriter Ali M Forbes and producer Andy Savours. The track melds honeyed vocals with a densely textured backdrop of acoustic electronica, handclaps, synths and dreamy atmospherics that enrapture from the first listen. It has already made the UK’s Amazing Radio ‘Record of the Week’ starting yesterday. The sound of Malpas combines the hushed melancholy of Nick Drake and the euphoric soundscapes of early Aphex Twin with a dollop of Tears For Fears pop ambition and Beta Band lo-fi scratchiness added in.
