NASCENT SINGER/SONGWRITER MICHAEL SACKLER-BERNER TO RELEASE SERIES
Nascent singer/songwriter/guitarist and native New Yorker Michael Sackler-Berner is set to release a series of digital 45s, each with both a- and b-sides, culminating in a double EP release later this year. The first 45 will be “She Loves Love” with the b-side track “Midnight Crisis.” “She Loves Love” will be available for purchase on October 14th via iTunes and other digital music providers. The song was produced by esteemed musician Marshall Crenshaw and Grammy-winning producer Stewart Lerman (Elvis Costello, David Byrne, Sufjan Stevens), both of whom worked with Sackler-Berner on more material that will be featured on his double EP release due out later this year. “She Loves Love” highlights Sackler-Berner’s substantial songwriting chops and showcases his ability to create buoyant, pop-leaning gems.

KIRILL GERSTEIN HEADS TO BOSTON TO TEACH
Classical pianist Kirill Gerstein will teach at two of Boston’s prestigious music schools – Berklee College of Music, his alma mater, and The Boston Conservatory. Starting September 15, Mr. Gerstein will be artist-in-residence in the Piano Department at Berklee and a member of the piano and chamber music faculty at The Boston Conservatory. This is the first joint appointment between both institutions.
Mr. Gerstein said, “I’m honored and excited to join Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory. Teaching has long been an essential part of my activities as a musician. I feel my experiences as a concert artist benefit my teaching, and teaching enriches my playing. I look forward to spending a significant amount of time in Boston, where I first lived in the United States and spent my formative years as a student at Berklee.”

The Rob Machado Foundation founded by legendary surfer, environmental activist and musician Rob Machado – is partnering once again with The Belly Up in San Diego, CA for its annual benefit concert. Tickets sold out so quickly for the foundation’s 2012 and 2013 concerts that Machado has made plans for the 2014 event to take place over the course of two consecutive nights – November 10 & 11.
STATES AND EMPIRES TO RELEASE EP IN OCTOBER
Many were sad to see Welsh band Attack! Attack! UK split in early 2013, but band members Neil Starr (guitar/vocals) and Will Davies (bass) wasted no time in forming States and Empires with Evita drummer Johno Fisher. They are set to release a three-song EP, Revolution, in the United States on October 7, 2014 via Rock Ridge Music. The three songs (“Revolution,” “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” and “Say Anything”) also appear on the forthcoming album, Freedom (which will see an early 2015 U.S. release), and serve as a taste of what’s to come from this trio. Influenced by early ’90s grunge, States and Empires manages to seamlessly blend instantly memorable, melodic hooks with pummeling drums and massive guitar riffs that have the capacity to pack as much of a punch in an arena as they do in a club.

Country superstars Big & Rich kicked off the official world debut of the “Look At You” music video this morning on CMT. It’s airing exclusively across all CMT platforms. The “Look At You” music video was filmed in Las Vegas on Caesar’s properties and inside the Brooklyn Bowl. It was written, produced and directed by award-winning Trey Fanjoy. Banjo player extraordinaire Eddie Adcock is the 2014 recipient of the 5th annual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, it was announced today in The New York Times. Adcock has been one of bluegrass music’s most revolutionary performers for over fifty years. He cut his musical teeth with Bill Monroe and Mac Wiseman, and played in the groundbreaking group The Country Gentlemen, one of the most popular and progressive bluegrass bands of the late ’50s and ’60s.

MALL WALK BROODING FIRST TRACK “TEEN MISSING” PREMIERES ON MY OLD KENTUCKY BLOG
Though just starting less than a year ago, the upcoming MALL WALK EP reveals the band to already be compulsively listenable and exceptionally sophisticated. Just a few months after the band’s inception, the trio started working with producer-engineer Monte Vallier (Weekend, The Soft Moon, Terry Malts) at San Francisco’s Ruminator Audio Studio to create an EP that is alternately infectious and gritty, spare and expansive, world-weary and inspired. The collaborative self-titled MALL WALK EP will be released October 14th, 2014 via singer-guitarist Rob I. Miller’s small label Vacant Stare Records.

Southpaw Steel ‘n’ Twang main man Ville Leppänen plays the electric guitars, lap steel and pedal steel guitars and wrote all the music on Hale’s Pleasure Railway. Ville (pronounced like “Willy”) gets solid backup from his SST band mates JP Mönkkönen (bass) and Tero Mikkonen (drums). Jazz, surf-noir and steel guitar sounds collide in an instrumental music paradise on this 2014 Southpaw Steel ‘n’ Twang CD.
TAHITI 80 “CRUSH” SINGLE
Tahiti 80 will release their new album, Ballroom, digitally and on vinyl
via Minty Fresh on October 21st.
For their sixth album, instead of their usual self-production, the band collaborated with Richard Swift (Tennis, The Shins, Foxygen) for some new ideas. After two years of writing songs, Tahiti 80 and Swift decided on a darker and sexier sound, mixed with their trademark catchy dance vibe. Frontman Xavier Boyer explains the title of the album: “The Ballroom is a place where a lot of things happen. People get together; couples make up or break up on the dance floor. It’s pretty interesting!”
RENAISSANCE TO PLAY NATICK ON OCTOBER 30
Renaissance have secured a distribution deal with Red River Entertainment, which now allows their new music to be heard worldwide. The new album is called, SYMPHONY OF LIGHT and contains the songs of its 2012 release, GRANDINE IL VENTO, plus three bonus tracks: “Renaissance Man,” “Immortal Beloved” and “Tonight.”
Renaissance will be performing an evening of classics and songs from its new album, A SYMPHONY OF LIGHT at the Natick Center for the Arts at 8 pm on October 30.
The Natick Center is at 14 S Summer Street in Natick, MA.

MARY LAMBERT ANNOUNCES HEADLINING NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
Mary Lambert will hit the road for a fall headlining North American tour, which kicks off on October 10th in Toronto and continues through mid November. The Seattle-based singer and songwriter is touring in support of her upcoming debut album Heart On My Sleeve, which will be released by Capitol Records on October 14th. Lambert, who toured all summer with Matt Nathanson and Gavin DeGraw, is known for her transcendent live shows, which often feature group sing-alongs and emotional moments for both Lambert and the audience.

MisterWives – Mandy Lee (Vocals), Etienne Bowler (Drums), Will Hehir (Bass) – began making music together in late 2012. Lee, the powerhouse vocalist, was born and raised in Queens and acts as the band’s principal songwriter. She studied songwriting and opera at NYC’s only specialized public high school for music and performing arts, laying a foundation for her incredible range and giving her the ability to explore a wide variety of vocal styles.
