STATES AND EMPIRES TO RELEASE EP IN OCTOBER

Many were sad to see Welsh band Attack! Attack! UK split in early 2013, but band members Neil Starr (guitar/vocals) and Will Davies (bass) wasted no time in forming States and Empires with Evita drummer Johno Fisher. They are set to release a three-song EP, Revolution, in the United States on October 7, 2014 via Rock Ridge Music. The three songs (“Revolution,” “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” and “Say Anything”) also appear on the forthcoming album, Freedom (which will see an early 2015 U.S. release), and serve as a taste of what’s to come from this trio. Influenced by early ’90s grunge, States and Empires manages to seamlessly blend instantly memorable, melodic hooks with pummeling drums and massive guitar riffs that have the capacity to pack as much of a punch in an arena as they do in a club.

SONGWRITER AND BEST-SELLING AUTHOR MISHKA SHUBALY HITS #1 WITH “OF MICE AND ME” VIA AMAZON.COM

A songwriter praised by Doug Stanhope and Johnny Depp among others, Mishka Shubaly leads a double life… as a best-selling author. His first five Kindle Singles have all been #1 bestsellers – “The Long Run” has sold more than 80,000 copies worldwide and has been translated into Spanish, German and Polish.

“Of Mice and Me” marks a significant departure for Shubaly, whose past Singles have dealt primarily with disasters, death, drink, drugs and deceit. The new story opens with Shubaly discovering an orphaned, infant mouse, barely a week old… and his fateful decision not to just put it out of its misery, but to save its life and nurse it back to health.

An alcoholic with five years of sobriety behind him, Shubaly quickly discovers that the mouse is much more than he bargained for. Mishkalito (as the mouse gets named) spurs love and hope and tenderness but also an intense evaluation of the shortcomings of the sober life Shubaly’s built, his relationship with his divorced parents and extended family and, indeed, his entire existence.

OLD MONK VIDEO ON CMJ

“The NYC trio called Old Monk may have released their second album, Posing As Love(Eenie Meenie), in sunny June, and just wrapped up a full U.S. summer tour. But this brand new video for Secrets In The Lawn that we’re premiering today looks and feels like the band is ready to take an eerie trip into the dark woods of the fall. Drooping characters throw things off bridges and traipse through sickly colored hallways, murderers get murdered and shadows lurk. Meanwhile, the tricky, minimal, brooding art-rock tune slowly builds, with intermittent spastic choruses, into a race.” – CMJ
