NEW VIDEO BY GENSU DEAN
The Grand Imperial, Gensu Dean, SP1200 producer, analog equipment junkie, and Mello Music producer, recently took a moment out of his NYC travels to talk about “The Art of Digging.” A pure vinyl head who abides by the Jedi code, Dean still covers labels, doesn’t do e-digging, and explains why in this short video clip. It’s this ethos, combined with hard knock production, that has garnered Gensu production credits and friendships with Large Professor, David Banner, Brand Nubian, Planet Asia, and even a co-sign from the King, DMC of Run DMC. Most recently Gensu Dean produced the entire album for Mississippi emcee 7evenThirty on a record titled “The Problem.”

ENSEMBLE MIK NAWOOJ RELEASES FIRST SINGLE “WE WILL CONQUER”
Ever wonder what Wu Tang’s C.R.E.A.M might sound like performed by a classical orchestra? Oakland-based Ensemble Mik Nawooj (EMN) does just that. Led by Korean born, Bay area-based Taoist composer JooWan Kim, the group melds Western European Classical compositional techniques into hip-hop, rock, & pop. The result, according to San Francisco Bay Guardian, “is a sound that juxtaposes the rapid-fire staccato of rap with the bombastic percussiveness and dramatic tension of western classical music. It’s unapologetic and truly like nothing else.”

RUBBLEBUCKET’S NEW VIDEO “CAROUSEL RIDE” PREMIERES ON NOISEY
VICE’s music blog Noisey is premiering the new video for, “Carousel Ride” off Rubblebucket’s new album Survival Sounds (due August 25 on Communion). The site proclaims, “The Brooklyn-based band mixes dynamics with studied aplomb: pounding drums, warped synth scratches, and a bold horn section are wedded to singer Kalmia Traver’s conversational, lilting singing style, which altogether create the perfect soundtrack for these surreal escapades. It’s baroque pop of the extremely epic variety.”

KOLLEY FINALLY UNLEASHES THE VISUAL FOR THE TITLE TRACK OF HIS DEBUT “REAL N*GGA SHIT”
With the highest score for a debut artist in Live Mixtapes history you’d think young BBE upstart Kolley hailed from a rap mecca like Atlanta instead of a blip on the map like Bassfield, MS. Of course the production roster “Real N*gga Shit” boasted and a feature from KRIT never hurt anyone but Kolley definitely struck a nerve.

MEDICINE “TURNING” SINGLE
Last year, LA trio Medicine released To The Happy Few, their first LP in nearly 20 years. Today, we’re happy to announce they are back yet again with Home Everywhere, out October 28th on Captured Tracks.
During this past year, Brad Laner, Elizabeth Thompson and Jim Goodall eschewed the 90s-nostalgia touring circuit trod and instead dug deep to bring you Home Everywhere: A collection of new songs created with a gaze that is omni-directional. An answer to no other band, movement or genre. An ambitious piece that could be the work of none other than three lifer music weirdos in full inspiration mode.

IN THE VALLEY BELOW SHARE NEW SINGLE “NEVERMINDERS”
“On the standout track “Neverminders,” they find a sweet spot in between bluesy rock revivalists like the Dead Weather and Lorde’s sweeping synth-pop, creating an epic, fuzzed-out sound that seems designed to played on very big stages. If they stay on the course they’ve plotted out, they could end up there very soon.” – ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
