RON EVANS PRESENTS ‘CHASING WOODSTOCK’

During the summer of 1969, approximately 500,000 people traveled to upstate New York for Woodstock, a three-day long music festival, designed to celebrate peace and love. However, times in America were anything but peaceful.  The country was divided by an increasingly unpopular Vietnam War, and protests were growing.  Meanwhile, large numbers of teens and college students rejected the cultural norms of their parents and the 1950’s; campaigning passionately for civil rights, fighting discrimination, and demanding equality for all Americans regardless of race, gender, or social status.

In his debut book, Chasing Woodstock: Finding the Cost of Freedom, author Ron Evans provides an inside look at how the summer of 1969, Woodstock, and its music changed his life forever.  His curiosity was first piqued when, through a simple act of kindness, he received a rare artifact from the festival. With an insatiable thirst for discovering the truth behind America’s loss of domestic tranquility, Evans takes his readers on the quest of a lifetime.  He shares never before heard stories, exclusive interviews and photographs; transporting his readers backstage, on stage, off stage, and into the dressing rooms of the greatest and most prolific recording artists in history including: The Who, Santana, Joan Baez, CS&N, Joe Cocker, and many more.

HOOK AND ANCHOR DELIVER AMERICANA SELF-TITLED DEBUT JULY 22

On July 22, 2014, via Jealous Butcher and Woodphone Records, Portland, Oregon-based Hook & Anchor – comprised of Blind Pilot’s Kati Claborn, Luke Ydstie, and Ryan Dobrowski, as well as old-time music veteran Gabrielle Macrae (of The Macrae Sisters), and Erik Clampitt (of Clampitt, Gaddis & Buck, Power of County) – will celebrate the release of their self-titled debut, an adventurous yet accessible collection of eleven songs, stitched together by a reverence for the evolution of traditional American music and the strong individual voices that comprise the band.

Hook & Anchor is a story of lost songs finding a home.  After a busy five years of touring with Portland-based band Blind Pilot, Claborn was sitting on a steadily growing pile of tunes.  As chance would have it, long-time friend and collaborator Clampitt was looking for material and musicians to play a handful of gigs culminating in a show at the San Francisco Old-time and Bluegrass Festival.  Songs were dusted off, friends were gathered, and the music that emerged had a voice and cohesion that immediately resonated with audiences and demanded to be more than a mere one-off.

WIRE: NEW SINGLE BY CARROLL

There was a time when Carroll was just your grandmother’s name or an avenue you drove by. But since the autumn of 2011, Carroll has come to describe the combined efforts of four gentlemen from all over who now call Minneapolis home.

Brian Hurlow started performing some of the melancholic pop songs that would become the Needs EP with a guitar and a laptop and caught the ear of Charlie Rudoy- a friend from college and a drummer. The two moved into a house on Carroll Avenue together and found a name for their budding project on the street sign on the corner. By the time Max Kulicke joined on guitar and Charles McClung on bass, the sounds coming out of the basement on Carroll Avenue were beginning to grab some attention.

AMERICANA OUTFIT SASSPARILLA POST 2 SINGLES

Raucous, melodic Americana outfit Sassparilla, led by songwriter and front man Kevin Blackwell, delivers Pasajero and Hullabaloo (Fluff & Gravy Records), a 19-track, double-disc set of two divergent, but distinctly Sassparilla albums.

The two albums, totaling 19 songs, move in polar directions; Pasajero more akin to the band’s latest two records (2012’s The Darndest Thing and 2013’s Magpie), boasts tight studio production and a melodic focus, while the ten tracks of Hullabaloo capture the live essence and playful nature of the band.

Their punishment was to free the world of hatred and anger by writing and performing music that could get people on their feet—shakin’ those hips. Over the course of collaboration, Haendel and Joel found that, although affiliated with rival gangs, they had formed a powerful friendship and even more powerful songwriting team.
