“Winter fell,” the hauntingly beautiful second offspring of Walking Shapes’ visual album Taka Come On, premieres with Village Voice today. The video reflects the state of emotional flux, feeling overwhelmed and is depicted by two masked dancers in a confined space.
“The song ‘Winter fell’ came about during a ‘polar vortex,’” singer Nathaniel Hoho tells Village Voice, who deems the tune “much warmer than its subject matter.” It’s a song about being forced to take a break, reflecting and coming to terms with one’s inner demons, while simultaneously embracing the good things and people in life.

Premiered by Earmilk, “Out of Focus” is the third single from Vedere’s forthcoming Bittersweet Victory album, which is set to be released on May 20th. “Noelz Vedere is ready to represent Chi-Town,” says Earmilk, before stating that “this is a name to watch this year.” Earlier this year, HipHopDX debuted the video for “Bittersweet,” while DJBooth later introduced the “Blackout” single. In addition to Gibbs, the album features Sir Michael Rocks and Sunni Colon. The album is produced entirely by German producer Alex Isaak.

Dances are a rock band, formed in New York in 2011 by singer/guitarist Trevor Vaz. Originally a solo songwriting project, it grew into a collaborative trio in 2013 with the addition of bassist/singer Sam Stoeltje and drummer David Su.
Drawing influence from 60s psych and 90s alternative, the group’s studiously lazy songs explore time, pleasure, and the politics of being small.

OTHERWISE ENTER STUDIO TO RECORD NEW ALBUM
Las Vegas breakthrough rockers OTHERWISE have begun recording their highly anticipated sophomore album, tentatively scheduled for a late Summer/early Fall release. Their sophomore release “Peace At All Costs,” is being produced by Grammy Award winner Dave Bottrill (Tool, Muse, Stone Sour, Godsmack, Staind, Peter Gabriel) at Audio Mix House and Vegas View Recording Studios in the band’s hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada. During the tracking of the album, the band will take a break and fly to Orlando, Florida for this year’s WJRR Earthday Birthday fest on April 12th, where they hope to debut a new track.
LEIF VOLLEBEKK TO PLAY NEWPORT FOLK FESTIVAL
After only three months into 2014, Leif Vollebekk has already had a stellar year with the release of his US debut North Americana and a successful showcase at the SXSW Music Festival. Now Vollebekk has been tapped to play the Newport Folk Festival, which takes place Fort Adams State Park in Newport, RI between July 25th and 27th.
Vollebekk will perform on Sunday July 27th alongside artists such as Mavis Staples, Conor Oberst, Trampled By Turtles, Lucero, and Hurray For The Riff Raff. You can find additional information at www.newportfolk.org.

WHISKEY OF THE DAMNED HIT THE ROAD
Widely lauded in its hometown of Milwaukee as “the best band to party to,” Whiskey of the Damned are taking the show on the road in support of their independently released inaugural album, MONSTERS ARE REAL. Following a hometown St. Patrick’s Day performance at the Turner Hall Ballroom that doubled as a CD release celebration, the five-piece band will be hitting the east coast with its energetic brand of Celtic rock.
The tour will include a mix of Irish bars, music clubs and private events. “Audience reaction has been getting stronger,” enthuses Dublin-born frontman Eoin (pronounced O-wen) McCarthy, who sings, plays guitar and composes most of the band’s material. WIRE: OPERA MORT STREAM A TRACK VIA FACT
Dédales is the second LP from Opera Mort following a debut for the inhouse label of the sadly defunct Parisian record shop Bimbo Tower. The project is an ongoing collaboration between Jo Tanz and Laurent Gerard, two figures from France’s contemporary avant garde underground; Jo with his Tanzprocesz label and Laurent with his Élg project (Élg’s ‘Mil Pluton’ album appeared on Alter in 2012). They also form two thirds of the trio Reines D’Angleterre with the legendary French artist Ghedalia Tazartés who will be returning to live performance later in 2014. The 8 tracks on Dédales were edited down from a series of improvised live takes of abstract and other-worldy electronics, shifting the Opera Mort sound into more focussed territory and creating a musical language that’s uniquely singular and a direct result of their close collaborative relationship. The album is set to be released on April 14th, 2014 and you can stream a track from the record below.
