In January, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Angélique Kidjo will release both an autobiography and an album of all-new material. Written by Kidjo with Rachel Wernick, Spirit Rising: My Life, My Music is out January 7 on Harper Collins and contains a preface by Desmond Tutu and a foreword by Alicia Keys. The new album, Eve, is out January 28 on Savoy/429 Records. In support of both projects the renowned performer will embark on an extended U.S. tour in early 2014.
Produced by Patrick Dillett (David Byrne, Fatboy Slim), Eve, named after Kidjo’s mother, is a joyous musical ode to the pride, beauty and strength of African women and their worldwide socio-cultural influence. “I’ve spoken for many years about the beauty of African women, and I don’t need to talk anymore about it because on this recording I am letting the voices of the women show their beauty to the world,” Kidjo says. “Eve is all about showcasing the positivity they bring to their villages, cities, cultures and the world.”
