Omar Souleyman – the Syrian artist whose inspired take on Middle Eastern dabke dance music has captured rapturous attention both at home and abroad- is streaming his first proper studio album Wenu Wenu via NPR Music this week. Notorious for his energizing live shows, which have engrossed audiences at FYF Fest, Primavera, Fun Fun Fun Fest, amongst many more festivals and club appearances, Souleyman and his longtime collaborator Rizan Sa’id will be bringing their unique “Syrian techno” back to the US for a rare appearance at NPR’s CMJ showcase this Wednesday at Le Poisson Rouge.
