WIRE: THE MOTHER HIPS FREE SONG ON ROLLING STONE

The Mother Hips’ eighth studio album, Behind Beyond, is out this week on the band’s own Mother Hips Records imprint. The album marks 20 years since the Hips’ first release for Rick Rubin’s American Recordings. The Hips are giving away a free album track, “Song for JB,” written for the late Jay Bennett of Wilco, today at Rolling Stone online here. Tim Bluhm, primary songwriter for the Hips, says that “the song started out about losing friends in general but when Jay Bennett died, it was that story that I was able to tell a little. I didn’t know him too well, ran into him a few times on the road, but he was nice, and I felt like we had some things in common.”
