“Working with Matt on the ‘Deaf Christian’ video was different from anything I have ever experienced.”, says Andrew Strasser, the director of the newest video from sonic explorer Co La. “There’s something dark about Matt’s performance in the “Deaf Christian” video – ie squeezing, smashing, squashing fruit – that made the lighting essential. While filming, we discovered many compositions that could play to the music with the simple materials at hand guided by Matt’s performance. Many illustrated, animated touchstones come to mind when I see Matt’s appearance on camera — a hybrid of Mad Magazine, Norman Rockwell, Calvin and Hobbes and Ren & Stimpy.”
