A-Wax, no stranger to the way in which his gun-brandishing image can appear as cliché, knowingly says, “they think I am a little bit predictable with my themes and messages.” So putting A-Wax as kitchen staff is a way to switch it up and challenge that perception. “If you hear, ‘Pie-Rx Boy, keep it cooking’ on the hook,” explains A-Wax, “you might assume I’ll be cooking dope or standing on the block. I wanted to throw them off with this one, and we had fun making it, not taking ourselves too seriously.” Things ramp up a bit, though, as the track’s catchy hook comes in, along with some machine gun-toting robbers, and the video unwinds in a tense play-by-play.
