Timbre (http://timbreapp.com), the location-based music discovery app that helps music lovers find live bands, today announces it has expanded into the Android market with a free app in the Google Play Store, currently offered in a beta version. With millions of songs, powered by Rdio (http://www.rdio.com), Android users will be able to locate local live music within a set radius of their location. At launch, the Timbre Android app is available in the United States, with plans to quickly expand to 15 additional countries.
In the third quarter of 2012, smartphones running on the Android platform represented 75 percent of the 181.1 million that shipped, according to research from IDC. Furthermore, Nielsen reported the Android operating system is running on nearly 54% of smartphones in November 2012. The launch of Timbre’s Android app greatly expands its potential reach and answers the top feature request from users.
