BURLESQUE SOUNDTRACK

The Burlesque soundtrack, featuring songs from Christina Aguilera and Cher, will be released on November 22nd. Tricky Stewart, Linda Perry and Ron Fair all helped produce the set, which boasts covers of classic songs such as Etta James’ “Something’s Got A Hold On Me” and “Tough Lover” as well as Mae West’s “A Guy What Takes His Time” all performed by Christina Aguilera.   The soundtrack also features two brand new tracks performed by Cher, including “You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me,” a powerful Diane Warren-penned ballad. It marks Cher’s first new original song in seven years as well as her first movie musical. Christina Aguilera makes her theatrical film and musical debut as the lead character in Burlesque, which will open in theaters on Wednesday, November 24th.   The flick was written and directed by Steven Antin.

KE$HA’S CANNIBAL TRACKLISTING

On November 22nd, Ke$ha will release her new EP Cannibal, a companion piece to her platinum debut album Animal.   Much like Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster, Cannibal will be sold both as a standalone album and as part of a deluxe reissue of Animal.   The first single off the effort is “We R Who We R,” which was the most-added song on radio this week.   Other tracks featured on Cannibal include “Sleazy,” “Blow,” “The Harold Song,” “Grow a Pear” and “C U Next Tuesday.”

COLLEGE TO OFFER COURSE ON LADY GAGA

The University of South Carolina is offering a course next spring devoted to Lady Gaga.   According to the New York Times, the class is called Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame and will investigate what accounts for the soaring popularity of the 24-year-old global phenomenon.   It is headed by Mathieu Deflem, a 48-year-old sociology professor at the school who wants to explore what makes a person famous and what being famous means in today’s culture. Deflem is also a tremendous Gaga fan and has been to 28 of her concerts and owns more than 300 of her records on vinyl and CD. He even started a fan site called GagaFrontRow.net that boasts pictures and audio downloads of rare Gaga songs. Deflam has met Gaga five times and hopes she will visit the class during the semester.  

NELLY LOVES WORKING WITH AKON AND T-PAIN

Now that he’s released the video for “Move That Body” featuring Akon and T-Pain, Nelly told us what it was like working with the best hook-singers in the game (See Related Cut #4). KINGS OF LEON RETURN TO LONDON FOR INTIMATE SHOW

Kings of Leon have been playing stadiums and arenas around the world for a few years now, but the band stripped things back for London fans last week. Billboard reports that the group played an intimate session for BBC Radio 1, debuting songs off their brand new album, Come Around Sundown. For fans that don’t know, Kings of Leon made their big break in the U-K many years ago and have debuted at number one on the charts there with their last three albums. Kings of Leon play Boston on November 14th.

TAYLOR SWIFT AS A WAX STATUE

Taylor Swift has officially made it — she has a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in New York City.   According to Billboard, the crossover star was in attendance at the unveiling of her wax figure last week, and even dressed in the same outfit.   However, Billboard reports that the wax-Taylor appears to have “lighter and straighter hair” than the real life singer.

LADY GAGA DOES PILATES

Lady Gaga is all about staying in shape, and apparently she’s enlisted the help of a professional to help her do just that.   According to British paper the Daily Star, the pop star has hired a Pilates instructor to be at her “beck and call” while she’s on tour in Europe.

MAROON 5 AND ONEREPUBLIC WRAP TOUR

Maroon 5 and OneRepublic just parted ways after being out on the road with each other, and M5 frontman Adam Levine seems pretty torn up about it.   The singer took to his Twitter account to say that he’s “gonna miss” the guys from OneRepublic, and that they’re “good dudes.”   Adam shouldn’t be too sad though, he’ll be heading back on the road in December — although according to their official website, there will be no opening acts for the upcoming gigs.

MTV PREVIEWS RIHANNA AND EMINEM COLLAB

We’re all dying to hear Eminem and Rihanna’s sequel to “Love The Way You Lie,” which will appear on the singer’s upcoming Loud LP. MTV got the chance to check out the record and reported that, “When the chorus kicks in, the hook from the original track is bigger and more cinematic than ever before, but it’s Em’s seething anger when he delivers his verse that will have fans going bananas. He raps about the pain she causes him just as much as he causes her, spitting rhymes about trading punches with his lady love.” The cut is one of the more personal, darker songs off the effort, which will mainly include upbeat, pop-driven tunes. EMINEM BACK IN THE STUDIO WITH DR DRE

According to MTV News, Eminem has revealed that he’s already begun recording the follow-up to Recovery. What’s more exciting is the fact that Slim Shady spilled that the upcoming effort will include production from Dr Dre. During the Morning After Show on Shade 45 Sirius satellite, the rapper stated, “I’m in the studio with Dre now, let’s just say that. Pretty soon he’s going to make a beat and I might rap on it.” Even though Em says he’s not looking to drop another album anytime soon, it’s good to know that the next disc will include beats by Dr Dre!

JANET TALKS BREAST BINDING IN NEW BOOK

While promoting her upcoming book, True You, Janet Jackson opened up about her breasts being bound when she appeared on the hit TV sitcom, Good Times. The icon said of the traumatic experience that “they never told me that we were going to do it, no one ever talked to about it…I always kept everything inside,” adding that “it made me feel that the way that I am, it’s not good enough.” Fans can expect True You to hit book stores early next year.

SHINEDOWN LOVE THEIR FAN FAMILY

Shinedown are about to kick off an acoustic tour this week. The band is so dedicated to their fans that singer Brent Smith told us they treat their audience like family (See Related Cut #6). Shinedown’s Anything & Everything tour gets underway on Thursday in Tampa, Florida.

NICKI TALKS EMINEM COLLABORATION!

During an episode of MTV’s RapFix Live, Nicki Minaj told Sway that recording her collaboration with Eminem “was the most fun song on Pink Friday. It gave me life. Absolutely, darling.” Minaj stated that she “went out on a whim” and “sent him one record” and he responded back with “‘Can you send me something that’s a little more me?’” The Queens native was humbled and explained, “I sent him an e-mail and thanked him for that, just having enough respect. Sometimes people don’t respond. He had the respect, at least, to treat me like a peer.” The rappers join forces on a record called “Roman’s Revenge,” which will appear on the fem-cee’s debut LP Pink Friday. According to HipHopDX.com, the official track-listing for Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday has leaked. The disc, which arrives in stores November 22nd, boasts contributions from Eminem, Drake and will.i.am. ESTELLE PERFORMS FOR BREAST CANCER

GRAMMY Award-winning artist Estelle is expected to perform and help raise money to benefit for Grady Health Foundation’s Travel in Pink event. Presented by Delta Airlines, the “American Boy” singer will take stage at the Delta Air Transport Heritage Museum on November 16th in Atlanta, Georgia.   Proceeds for the fundraiser will reportedly go directly to Grady’s Avon Foundation Comprehensive Breast Center. KANYE TALKS “LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG”

During a sit-down with MTV, Kanye West explained how the collaboration for Rick Ross’ “Live Fast, Die Young” single came together. The song is sampled from Bar-Kays’ “If This World Were Mine” and ‘Ye “loved the sample so much that [he] played it for two days.” West thought of adding “handclaps” to the song to “juxtapose it and not make it just some takeoff of a ’94 hip-hop song, but to make it a 2010, 2011, 2012 futuristic version of itself.” Never one to miss a chance to toot his own horn, he concluded by explaining that “It’s kind of important for people to realize I’m a producer also.”

STEVE PERRY SINGS JOURNEY FROM THE STANDS

Among the celebrities at the recent game five of the National League Championship Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants was former Journey singer and current Giants fan Steve Perry.   When Journey’s hit “Don’t Stop Believin’” came on at the Bay City’s AT&T Park, Steve happily sung along with all the folks in the stands around him.   Check out footage by searching YouTube for “Steve Perry Rocking SF Giants Fans.”
