JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE TALKS NEW MUSIC

Justin Timberlake made the rounds over the past few weeks to promote his film, The Social Network.   The singer and actor was on Saturday Night Live, ESPN, The View and even made a memorable appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.   Justin was asked about when he plans to release the follow-up to his 2006 album Futuresex/Lovesounds.   He said he is waiting for inspiration to step into the studio and has made no deadlines for when he will return to music.   Timberlake spent the summer shooting the comedy Friends with Benefits with Mila Kunis, which should hit theaters next summer.   The Social Network is in theaters now.              

BIEBER MAKES BANK

According to the website The Smoking Gun, Justin Bieber gets paid a minimum of 300-thousand dollars per concert.   The staggering amount is double the price that big acts like Weezer and Drake command, but much less than Rascal Flatts, who rake in over 700-thousand dollars per show.   The site also reports that Bieber’s tour rider states his backstage room must contain: mixed nuts, potato chips, herbal teas, Vitamin Water, deli meats, vegetable and fruit platters and more.   Read more at TheSmokingGun.com.

GAGA’S THE FAME ON THE CHARTS FOR 100 WEEKS

It’s a special time for Lady Gaga, as her debut album, The Fame, has now been on the Billboard 200 chart for an amazing 100 weeks.   The record debuted at number 17 in November 2008, and has gone everywhere from number two to number 83, and currently sits in the 23rd slot on the chart.   According to Billboard, The Fame is the highest-ranking album with 100 chart weeks or more since Taylor Swift’s self-titled album hit number 21 in its 129th week.  

GAGA SUPRISES CROWD AT THE OAK ROOM

Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance Wednesday night at the Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.   The singer performed four songs accompanied by the After Dark Jazz Trio, wearing a fur dress and fishnets for the impromptu set.   Gaga brought her parents out for the low-key evening.   An Oak Room spokesperson told the New York Post that Gaga called ahead to see if she could sing with the band.  

FLIGHT ATTENDANTS DANCE TO GAGA

The flight attendants from Cebu Pacific Airlines do something very special while giving their emergency landing instruction speech before takeoff. Head over to YouTube and search “Cebu Pacific FAs Dancing” to catch a clip of the flight attendants dancing to Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” while showing plane riders how to fasten their seatbelts and put on their lifejackets.

RIHANNA TO DO SNL

According to Rap-Up.com, Rihanna is scheduled to make another appearance on Saturday Night Live later this month. The “Only Girl (In The World)” singer has signed on as the musical guest for the late-night show’s October 30th Halloween episode hosted by Mad Men’s Jon Hamm. The upcoming showcase will mark Ri Ri’s second time on SNL. Be sure to mark your calendars now!

B.O.B: “OBAMA HAS ME IN IPOD”

After performing at the Gen44 Summit in Washington, D.C., B.o.B. recently met with President Barack Obama late last week. The “Magic” rapper told XXLMag.com that he was surprised to learn that the Commander in Chief had some Bobby Ray in his iPod. Bob revealed he joked with the Prez, saying “You got a real good iPod then!” The Grand Hustle rapper added that Obama “congratulated me on all the success and said he was proud of everything that I was doing. We snapped a few pictures. It was a really good, really good day.”

BRUNO WANTS TO RECORD WITH JAY-Z AND ALICIA

After working with artists like B.o.B and Travie McCoy, Bruno Mars shared with Rap-Up.com who he is dying to record with. The Hawaiian native “would love to collab with Alicia Keys,” because he’s “always been a big fan of hers.” Mars then stated, “Jay-Z, when are you gonna call me? When are we gonna get in the studio together?” In related news, fans will be able to pick up the singer’s Doo-Wops & Hooligans album tomorrow!

THE FRAY, KRAVITZ TO OPEN FOR U2

U2 have just announced who will be opening for them on their North American tour and the lineup is pretty impressive.   According to a post on the band’s official website, it will include acts like The Fray, Lenny Kravitz, Snow Patrol and more.   See where and when specific groups will be performing at U2.com.

KATY AND RUSSELL WEAR DISGUISES IN PUBLIC

How do Katy Perry and Russell Brand go out in public without being recognized?   Well apparently they dress up as old ladies.   Speaking at a book signing for his new autobiography, My Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal, the comedian said, “I put on some specs, then I bend over like an old man and go out with Katy holding a cane and we dodder around like a couple of bag ladies.”   Russell’s book is on sale now.

MANDY MOORE DELIVERS MALARIA NETS TO AFRICA

Mandy Moore teamed up with the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign to deliver long-lasting, insecticide-treated mosquito nets to people in the Central African Republic.   According to a press release, the country has one of the highest childhood death rates in the world, with malaria being a main cause.   Learn more about Mandy’s experience at NothingButNets.net.

NICKI MINAJ: IT GETS BETTER!

MTV News reports Nicki Minaj has spoken up about homosexual teenagers who have committed suicide from anti-gay bullying at school. The “Your Love” rapper stated she wants her “gay fans to be fighters and to be brave.” Minaj added, “People face difficulties, no matter who you are. I faced difficulties with a lot of things. I face opposition every day, but I didn’t kill myself and now, thank God, I’m here. So I want my life to be a testimony to my fans and my gay fans.” Nicki is the newest artist to let teens know that strongly “suicide is never the answer.”

ARE TRAIN THINKING ABOUT THEIR NEXT ALBUM?

Train’s comeback album, Save Me, San Francisco, has been an enormous success, spawning the song “Hey, Soul Sister,” which is arguably the biggest hit of the group’s long career.   So have the rockers started thinking about their next album?   Frontman Pat Monahan filled us in… sort of (See Related Cut #4).   So still no official word on the next record, but Pat’s certainly thinking about it.   We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear more.  

JOHN MAYER PLAYS PIANO AT COMEDY CLUB

People who went to Caroline’s Comedy Club in New York City to see Jeffrey Ross perform last week got a little extra bang for their buck.   According to the New York Post, the comedian asked someone in the audience to come up and play piano in the background while he told some jokes, and none other than John Mayer volunteered to help out.   The paper reports that the “crowd went crazy.”

BRANDON FLOWERS & KYLIE MINOGUE?

Could we be close to hearing a collaboration between Brandon Flowers and Kylie Minogue?   According to British paper The Sun, the Aussie pop star said that she would “love” to work with The Killers frontman.

MARIO ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING MOM?

According to TMZ, Mario has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother, Shawntia Hardaway. The “Break Up” singer was officially charged with second degree assault after he damaged property inside their shared Baltimore residence and pushed Hardaway “eight feet into a living room wall.” It’s unknown what caused the incident but the former Dancing with the Stars contestant was released on a 50-thousand dollar bond. We’ll keep you posted with further updates.

“EVERYBODY HURTS” WILL MAKE A MAN CRY

What song should you put on if you want your man to start balling his eyes out?   It seems that it would be R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.”   According to NME, PRS For Music did a study about the top ten tunes that will make a grown man cry, and the group’s 1993 single topped the list.   Coming in second was Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” and third was “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen.   Other songs in the top ten include “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O’Conner, “Streets of Philadelphia” by Bruce Springsteen and U2’s “With or Without You.”

PAUL McCARTNEY WRITES TO GEORGE MICHAEL

George Michael has a good friend in Paul McCartney.   According to British paper The Sun, the former Beatle sent Michael a two page letter, offering him advice and telling him to “keep his head up” while he’s in jail for driving under the influence of marijuana.   It’s been reported that Michael hasn’t had the easiest time adjusting to life behind bars, and that he’s been reading the letter “over and over again” since receiving it.

CIARA ISSUES “SHUT EM UP” FOR HATERS

Ciara has had enough and recently released a new song dedicated to nay-sayers titled “Shut ‘Em Up.” The up-tempo record surfaced just days after her rumored nemesis, Keri Hilson, announced that her No Boys Allowed album will go up against Ci Ci’s Basic Instinct record on November 30th. With lyrics like “I don’t have to respond to you, I don’t gotta prove nothing to you,” it’s clear Ciara is tired of the haters talking s**t!

EMINEM TO APPEAR IN NEW FILM?

XXLMag.com has learned that Eminem is looking to return to the big screen. The “8 Mile” star and fellow actor, Frances McDormand, could both potentially sign on to appear in an upcoming Fernando Meirelles sex-themed drama called 360 with Rachel Weisz and Anthony Hopkins.   Slim Shady is yet to confirm if he will be a part of the film adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s 1900 play La Ronda. We’ll keep you posted.

EMINEM AND LIL WAYNE SHOW “NO LOVE”

After previously teaming up for “Drop The World,” Eminem has issued the video for his new single, “No Love” featuring Lil Wayne. The clip was one of the many that Weezy shot just before he entered Riker’s Island for weapons possession. The song is off Slim Shady’s Recovery LP and samples of Haddaway’s classic tune, “What Is Love.” Check out the video on YouTube now!
