WILL.I.AM TALKS MICHAEL JACKSON INSPIRATION
On Wednesday’s episode of MTV’s The Seven, will.i.am — who teamed up with Nicki Minaj on “Check It Out,” off of her Pink Friday album — broke down his approach to creating chart-busting tracks. He said he turns to Michael Jackson’s music for inspiration explaining, “If you want a song to be a big number one smash, then you have to play a Michael Jackson song while you’re making your song.” He added that using an artist such as Jackson as a benchmark will usually let a producer know if a track really has that “it” factor. The Peas frontman went on to say that when you think you have a hit record, you have to play an MJ record to make sure the new song is as loud as Jackson’s. Minaj noted that will.i.am is a phenomenal producer and created the beat for the song on the spot. The Seven airs every weekday at 5 PM on MTV.
NEW BIEBER VIDEO!
Justin Bieber has released his video for “U Smile.” The clip is the fifth off his My World 2.0 album, which was released back in March. It follows videos for his singles “Baby,” where he went bowling with Drake and Ludacris, “Never Let You Go,” in which he hung out at Atlantis in the Bahamas, “Somebody To Love,” where he threw a karate-themed dance party with Usher and “Eenie Meenie,” in which he and Sean Kingston partied in the Hollywood Hills. The Alfredo Flores-directed video, which can be seen now on E! Online, focuses on wooing a young fan that he falls in love with. It seems the idea was inspired by people wondering if he would ever date a fan.
