GAGA AND BEYONCE WIN BET AWARDS

Lady Gaga took home her first BET Award over the weekend.   Gaga and Beyonce won Video of the Year for their collaboration on the song “Video Phone.”   The “Bad Romance” singer took to her Twitter account to thank her fans for the honor.

GAGA DEBUTS A NEW SONG

People that attended Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball over the weekend got quite the treat.   Lady Gaga performed a brand new song live for the very first time.   It’s called “You and I,” and the pop star wrote on her Twitter that the tune was written in New York City using the piano that she “grew up on.”   See the video of Gaga performing it live on YouTube now.

THE ELECTRIC DAISY FESTIVAL TAKES ITS TOLL

The 14th annual Electric Daisy Festival was held over the weekend at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Park.   The electronic music event featured DJs from all around the world spinning for more than 185-thousand ravers.   According to the Los Angeles Times, more than 100 people were taken to local hospitals during a two-day festival.   The L-A Fire Department says many of the injuries occurred as people rushed barriers Saturday to try and overwhelm security to get inside the event, which featured carnival rides and five different stages highlighted by performances from Moby and Will.I.Am.

BLACK EYED PEAS STAY STRONG

Rumors began swirling over the weekend that Fergie and will.i.am had been feuding.   There were also reports that the Black Eyed Peas and Fergie would be parting ways.   Will.i.am squashed the rumors on Twitter writing: “Don’t believe gossip about Fergie leaving the group (we are never breaking up) it’s all lies!!!”   Will also said the band is a family and they are not going anywhere.  

KATY PERRY BREAKS RADIO PLAY RECORD

A week after reaching the chart’s summit, Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg, rewrites the mark for most weekly plays in the 17-year history of Billboard’s Pop Songs radio airplay chart.   “California Gurls” logged over 11,800 spins, an average of 90 plays per station last week, according to Nielsen BDS.   The song passes the 11,200 plays tallied by previous record-holder Ke$ha’s “TiK ToK” back in February.   Perry’s song has spent the last three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

BIG NAMES AT THE VH1 DO SOMETHING AWARDS

The line-up for the Vh1 Do Something Awards has just been announced.   According to a press release, the show will feature performances by Natasha Bedingfield, Lifehouse and Travie McCoy with Bruno Mars.   The show is going to be hosted by Glee star Jane Lynch, and celebrates five young people that are doing their best to try and change the world for the better.   The Do Something Awards air live from Los Angeles on Monday, July 19th at 9 PM Eastern on Vh1.

BEYONCE AND DAD NOT SPEAKING?

According to the New York Post, Beyonce is not speaking to her father, Mathew Knowles, for having a child with 38-year-old Alexsandra Wright. The kid was conceived during an 18-month affair while Mat was still married to Bey’s mom, Tina. A source revealed, “Beyoncé was horrified to find out her dad cheated on her mom. She always looked up to him, and she is very close to her mom, so this has hit her really hard. She is refusing to speak to him, which is making things difficult where it comes to managing her career.”

KYLIE HELPS RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY

To raise money for AIDS charities, Kylie Minogue is willing to do anything — that includes giving the shirt off of her back.   According to the Associated Press, the Aussie pop star donated a top from designer Jean Paul Gaultier that brought in just under 25-thousand dollars at auction.   The event, which benefitted the American Foundation for AIDS Research, took place over the weekend in Paris and raised more than 180-thousand bucks.

KANYE CHANGED ALBUM RELEASE DATE

According to music executive Andre Harrell’s Twitter page, fans can expect Kanye West’s album, titled Good Ass Job, sooner than we think. The exec tweeted that ‘Ye will now hit stores on September 14th, a week earlier than its original release date. In addition, West is slated to go up against Kid Cudi’s upcoming sophomore effort.

DRAKE SUED BY PLAYBOY?

RapRadar.com reports Drake is facing a lawsuit for infringing upon rights owned by Playboy founder, Hugh Heffner. Apparently, Drizzy’s hit song “Best I Ever Had” includes sampled material from the record called “Fallin’ In Love,” which was created by Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds. Heffner owns and maintains the copyright to said song. Drizzy is yet to respond to the suit, we’ll keep you posted.

USHER SIGNS ON FOR REGGAE FEST

We’ve just learned Usher is expected to perform at this year’s   Reggae Sumfest. The “OMG” singer will be joined by Chris Brown, Shaggy, Movado, Beenie Man and others during the concert — which will be held at Catherine Hall between July 17th and 24th in Jamaica. WILL KATY PERRY SHAVE HER HEAD?

We all remember when Britney Spears shaved her head a few years back, but could we see Katy Perry going down the same path?   In an interview with BBC Radio, the “California Gurls” singer said that because she was a little older than most pop stars when she first became famous, she doesn’t believe that she’ll act out.   Perry added that she’s “not going to say” she won’t mess up, because “someday” she might want to shave her head.   She joked that it wouldn’t be anytime soon though because then she would get a sunburn.

T-PAIN DROPS PRICE FOR IPHONE APP

According to BallerStatus.com, T-Pain has added new features and a better price for his iPhone app called I Am T-Pain. The entertainer is now giving fans with the iPhone 4 the ability to record themselves with the new front facing camera. They can also now auto-tune pets and even make a music video. FANS FORCE SOULJA TO DELETE TWITTER PAGE

Soulja Boy continues to get little credit for his rap skills. Over the weekend, the young emcee became a trending topic on Twitter for all the wrong reasons. People began to diss the rapper with tweets like: “If Soulja Boy is a rapper, then Windows 7 was really my idea” and, “If Soulja Boy is a rapper, then Rick Ross wasn’t a corrections officer.” The heated discussion actually prompted the “Pretty Boy Swag” to delete his Twitter account! It’s unknown if he will create a new page.

VANILLA ICE INVOLVED IN REAL ESTATE

Rob Van Winkle, better known as Vanilla Ice, has remained busy with a new hustle: real estate. When the “Ice, Ice Baby” rapper turned 16, he profited on several properties he purchased then sold and has quietly flipped houses for the past two decades. According to The Real Deal, Ice is making a fortune from buying foreclosed properties, making repairs and then re-selling them on the market. This fall, fans will be able to see how he does it in a new reality show called The Vanilla Ice Project on the DIY network.

 LIL WAYNE IS SO PROUD OF YOUNG MONEY

Lil Wayne is very pleased that Young Money members Nicki Minaj and Drake took home some hardware during the 2010 BET Awards. According to WeezyThanxYou.com, the rapper posted a new entry from New York’s Rikers Island prison. Wayne wrote, “Shout out to my YM family for making me proud. Love and appreciate life.” The rap star is serving a year for weapons possession, but he assured fans that he’s just passing the time, grateful to be “alive, breathing and blessed.”

DIDDY FIRES BACK AT 50 CENT

During the post-show for the 2010 BET Awards, Diddy finally shot back at 50 Cent for talking reckless about his Dirty Money movement. The G-Unit ringleader recently called Puff a “blood sucker” for signing on to manage Rick Ross’ career in an attempt to stay relevant. Diddy looked directly in the camera and stated, “Hate is for suckas. And you know who I’m talking to, you hatin’ ass crab.” Only time will tell if this develops into a bigger beef, we’ll keep you updated.

EL DEBARGE READIES NEW ALBUM

El DeBarge performed during the 2010 BET Awards and is looking to make a comeback this year. It turns out the legendary singer is crafting a new album. MTV News reports the crooner is working on a project called Second Chance. The title is fitting since this will be his first album of new material since 1994.

BRANDON FLOWERS ON GOING SOLO

On September 14th, Brandon Flowers will release his first ever solo album, but Killers fans want to know why the singer has decided to go alone for this one. He told Rolling Stone, “This isn’t about getting attention or proving something, it’s just what I’m accustomed to doing.” So will it sound like The Killers? Flowers says no adding, “These songs have an isolation to them that Killers records don’t have. THE EDGE PERFORMS WITH MUSE

There were tons of special guests at the Glastonbury Festival in England over the weekend and U2 guitarist The Edge was one of them. The famous axeman played alongside Muse during their set and fans can see pics now at U2.com. Edge even performed the iconic first few chords of “Where The Streets Have No Name.” U2 were scheduled to play the event but had to pull out after Bono underwent emergency back surgery.
