KATY PERRY AND RUSSELL BRAND ARE ENGAGED!

There had been rumors floating around for a while now, and it has finally been confirmed — Katy Perry and Russell Brand are engaged!   The comedian’s publicist confirmed to People.com that the couple is indeed set to be married.   Brand also texted a statement to British paper The Sun saying, “It’s true. Much love.”  

GAGA GETS ANOTHER NUMBER ONE

Lady Gaga just keeps going and going.   According to Billboard.com, the singer has just notched her fifth number one tune on the Pop chart with her song “Bad Romance.”   It’s also Gaga’s fifth consecutive number one on the chart, joining her others hits “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “LoveGame” and “Paparazzi.”

LADY GAGA, THE SUPERHERO?

Lady Gaga, the superhero?   Apparently that is going to become a reality, as Bluewater Productions is turning the “Bad Romance” singer into a comic-book character.   The comic book featuring Gaga is set to hit stores on May 5th. You can learn more at EOnline.com.

LADY GAGA GETS A “REAL JOB”

Lady Gaga has gotten herself a new job.   According to PerezHilton.com, in an effort to bring back the popularity of Polaroid instant cameras, the company has made the singer-songwriter their new “creative director,” as well as “inventor of specialty projects.”   The announcement is set to be officially announced today in Las Vegas, and Gaga said that she’s excited to — as her “father puts it” — “finally have a real job.”   Learn more at PerezHilton.com.

MILEY CYRUS LOVED BEING OUT OF L-A

Miley Cyrus filmed her new movie, The Last Song, in Georgia, and apparently she loved the experience.   Not so much because of Georgia itself, but more so because she got to get out of Los Angeles.   The pop star told Harper’s Bazaar that getting to spend time away from L-A made her feel like a “normal” teenager and that she “went out every night” with friends, and that would have been a huge deal in L-A.   Learn more about Miley’s trip to the south at HarpersBazaar.com.

LIFEHOUSE CHANGES THEIR RELEASE DATE

Lifehouse’s highly anticipated forthcoming album Smoke & Mirrors was set to hit stores on February 2nd, but it appears that is no longer the case.   People are going to have to wait a few weeks longer to pickup the record, because according to a post on the band’s official Web site, it’s been pushed back until the 23rd of that month.   Learn more at LifehouseMusic.com.

KRIS ALLEN’S NEW YEARS EVE PERFORMANCE

MADONNA TO TAKE NEW MUSICAL DIRECTION?

Is Madonna ready to take a new direction on the follow-up album to 2008’s Hard Candy?   According to ContactMusic.com, the pop star is working with hip-hop producer A-Trak and also with Brendan O’Brien, who has previously produced for Pearl Jam.   No word yet on the title of the album or when it is set to hit stores.

PUSSYCAT DOLL UPDATE

There have been rumors of a Pussycat Doll break-up or change-up for quite a while now, and it seems like we’re no closer to the truth than before.   Member Kimberly Wyatt spoke with Reveal magazine, saying that she “really can’t comment” on what’s next for the group and that she’s just “thankful for every experience” they’ve given her.

GREEN DAY’S AMERICAN IDIOT HEADS TO BROADWAY

Green Day’s stage musical American Idiot is coming to Broadway. The theatrical piece will begin its run at the St. James Theatre on April 20th. American Idiot features music from the band’s 2004 album as well as some tunes from the 2009 album 21st Century Breakdown, and is directed by Michael Mayer, who helmed of Spring Awakening. VAMPIRE WEEKEND TOUR DATES FOR 2010

Vampire Weekend will release their new album Contra next week and just in time for the record, the band has announced a tour. According to Pitchfork, the New York group will trek through North America in March and April, kicking things off in Canada on March 14th. But before all that, Vampire Weekend is set to play Los Angeles on January 12th, followed by three shows in the Big Apple next week.

VAMPIRE WEEKEND DEAL WITH CONFLICT ON CONTRA

MTV News recently sat down with the boys in Vampire Weekend to chat about their new album, Contra, which comes out on Tuesday. During the interview, singer Ezra Koenig said their second album is “conflict, the idea of conflict, more than actually participating in it. That’s such a basic idea, and you can explore it in a lot of different ways.” Contra is streaming on Vampire Weekend’s MySpace page now.

TREY SONGZ JUMPS ON JAY-Z TOUR

According to LiveNation.com, Trey Songz has officially been added to the second leg of Jay-Z’s BP3 tour. The R&B star will be the opening act for the 23-city trek which kicks off on February 20th in Fort Lauderdale and wraps up on March 27th in Las Vegas. TRINA TEAMS WITH DIDDY, KERI HILSON AND GAGA

According to Rap-Up.com, new material has surfaced from Trina’s highly anticipated album, Amazin’. The rapper has recruited Diddy and Keri Hilson on the first official single, which is titled “Million Dollar Lady.” Additionally, the fem-cee has even recorded a duet with Lady GaGa called “Let Them Hoes Fight,” which was produced by Jim Jonsin. Trina’s fifth album, Amazin’, is scheduled to drop on June 8th.

SNOOP DOGG ON A SOAP OPERA?

During a recent interview on Chelsea Lately!, Snoop Dogg revealed that he will return to the set of his favorite soap opera, One Life to Live. The Doggfather, who appeared on the show last year and performed songs from 2008’s Ego Trippin LP, will again be on the soap next month. The rapper’s latest episode will air on February 24th.   He’ll perform “I Wanna Rock” off his latest album, Malice n Wonderland.

ALICIA KEYS DOES BILLBOARD LIVE AT THE APOLLO

Alicia Keys has reportedly agreed to perform for BillboardLive.com at New York’s legendary Apollo Theater tonight. The singer will play new cuts off her latest album, The Element of Freedom. You can watch the entire performance via BillboardLive.com at 9 PM Eastern.

The Element of Freedom sold 417,277 units sold in a week.

EDGE HATES JAMMING; WORKING ON NEW U2 SONGS

For a guitarist, The Edge really hates jamming. That’s what the U2 man told U-K paper the Daily Telegraph in a recent interview. Edge said he avoids jamming “at all costs” and finds it “very boring.” Edge also discussed new songs he is currently writing for the band’s upcoming album, Songs of Ascent, which he stated could come out in 2010.

SUSAN BOYLE REMAINS ON TOP

Another week gone, another week at the top of the charts for Susan Boyle.   The Brit’s album I Dreamed a Dreamed takes the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, bringing her total sales to over 3.1-million.   According to Nielsen SoundScan, at number two is Lady Gaga’s The Fame, selling 82-thousand units this week and 2.3-million total.   Rounding out the top five are three ladies, Alicia Keys’ The Element of Freedom, Mary J. Blige’s Stronger and Taylor Swift’s Fearless, respectively.   In sixth is teen sensation Justin Bieber, who’s My World sold just under 52-thousand units this week, followed by the soundtrack to Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squekquel, which jumped from number 20 to number seven.   Rounding out the top ten are the Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D., Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster, giving her two albums in the top ten, and finally, Owl City’s Ocean Eyes.
