RIHANNA GETS NEW TATTOO

It was just a matter of time until Rihanna added new body ink to represent the end of her relationship with Chris Brown. The new tattoo is located under her right collarbone and it reads: “Never a failure. Always a lesson.” The new design is in gray ink and it’s written backwards. According to OKMagazine.com, Ri Ri enlisted the skills of her tattoo artist, Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy, who finished it around 2 AM on Tuesday night.

BEYONCE SHOWS JAY-Z A GOOD TIME

To celebrate her husband’s 40th birthday, Beyonce shocked Jay-Z with a surprise party at the Casa de Campo resort in the Dominican Republic last week. According to People.com, the 1940s-themed event included a star studded guest list with famous faces like Diddy, Kate Hudson, Alex Rodriguez, Kanye West, M.I.A., and Solange. Alicia Keys even performed “Empire State of Mind” during Hova’s secret birthday bash.

LADY GAGA TO RING IN NEW YEAR IN MIAMI

Lady Gaga will ring in the New Year at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.   The singer will take the stage poolside and will lead revelers in the countdown to midnight, before turning out her first performance of 2010.   Gaga will be joined by DJ David Berrie & Jus-Ske.

R. KELLY WRITING MEMOIRS

R. Kelly issued a statement Wednesday saying that he is working on an autobiography with David Ritz that will “tell it like it is.”     According to the Associated Press, the 42-year-old singer, writer and producer promises to go through all his drama, including the child pornography charges that ended with an acquittal. The autobiography is untitled right now and is set to be released in 2011.

BEYONCE IN TALKS FOR VEGAS RUN

According to the Associated Press, Wynn Las Vegas officials say they’re in preliminary talks with Beyonce to bring the singer back to the Las Vegas resort. A Wynn Resorts spokeswoman says there’s no deal yet, despite published rumors of a lucrative, long-term contract.   Beyonce appeared at the resort in late July and early August this year while filming a concert DVD.  

TRAVIS BARKER SETTLES PLANE CRASH SUIT

According to the Associated Press, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has settled his lawsuit against several companies over a plane crash in South Carolina last year that killed four people. Barker was one of two survivors of the September 19th, 2008 crash that killed two pilots and two of his friends. The other survivor, DJ AM, has since died of an accidental drug overdose.   The terms of the settlement are confidential.  

SUSAN BOYLE TOPS BILLBOARD ALBUM CHART

Susan Boyle’s debut album I Dreamed a Dream will remain on top of the Billboard album chart, selling over 527-thousand copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.   After two weeks of release, the record is now the 10th biggest-selling album of the year with over 1.2-million copies sold. Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas holds at number two for a fourth week, selling another 428-thousand copies.   That album surpasses a million in total sales in its fifth week of release.   Taylor Swift’s Fearless spends its 47th week in the top 10, rising five spots to number three, while R. Kelly notches the highest debut as his Untitled album arrives at number four, selling over 114-thousand copies.   Lady Gaga’s The Fame climbs one spot to number five, while her eight song Fame Monster set drops eight spots to number 13.   Carrie Underwood’s Play On slides up three positions to number six, Norah Jones’ The Fall climbs three slots to number seven, while Michael Jackson’s This Is It ascends three notches to number eight.   Following suit, the New Moon soundtrack jumps three spots to number nine, while Micahel Buble’s Crazy Love leaps eight spots back into the top ten.    

RIHANNA ANNOUNCES U-K ARENA TOUR

Rihanna will head out on a U-K arena tour in May.   According to Billboard, the Live Nation-promoted tour will kick off in Birmingham, England on May 7th and will wrap in Glasgow, Scotland on May 19th.   The outing will hit eight venues including a stop at the O2 Arena in London.   Tickets go on sale on Friday.

NKOTB TO RELEASE NEW DVD

In February, New Kids on the Block will release a new DVD titled Coming Home.   The disc shows the group from the studio to the stage and gives fans a glimpse of the band’s journey to reunite.   The documentary style DVD follows the band as they meet in a studio for the first time after 15 years, tour the globe playing over 140 sold out arena concerts performing to a million plus fans and features six live performances from the group’s world tour, an assortment of never before seen glimpses behind the scenes, bloopers, band jokes and special moments with the fans.   Coming Home arrives in stores on February 2nd.  

KERI HILSON COLLABS WITH TREY SONGZ

Not too long ago, Keri Hilson told us who she is dying to work with (See Related Cut #4) and it looks like the “Knock You Down” singer will get her wish. Miss Keri Baby has jumped on the official remix to Trey Songz’ “I Invented Sex” single featuring Usher. In addition, Trey just has released a five-track Up Close & Ready EP containing live renditions of his greatest hits. It will only be available until January 4th, 2010 exclusively through iTunes.

STARS SHOW UP TO SEE GAGA

Tuesday night in New York City, Lady Gaga performed at the launch party for Google’s new music video site, Vevo.   It was a star studded affair, and PerezHilton.com has pictures of many different celebs that were in attendance posing together, including Taylor Swift and Rihanna, and John Mayer and Justin Timberlake.   Head to the gossip site now to check it out.

MORE AMY WINEHOUSE AND BLAKE NEWS

We recently reported that there have been rumors going around that Amy Winehouse and ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil are going to get remarried, and what happened earlier in the week in England will only add fuel to that fire.   According to British paper The Sun, Amy was seen visiting Blake at a drug rehab center where he is staying, and not only that, but Blake supposedly has a new tattoo — a picture of Winehouse’s face on the top of his hand.

MILEY WANTS A BREAK FROM MUSIC

Miley Cyrus is getting ready to take a break from music — well, sort of.   According to an interview with British show GMTV, she wants the current album that she’s working on to be her “last record for a little while and be able to take a break.”   She goes on to say that it’s because she wants to take some time to work on “something edgier” so she’ll be ready for when her fans grow up.  

JOHN MAYER AT FESTIVAL IN NETHERLANDS

As well as going number one in the U-S, John Mayer’s new album Battle Studies hit the top of the charts in the Netherlands, and he’s making sure the country knows he appreciates them.   In addition to opening up his European tour in the country, the singer-songwriter will now be performing at the Netherland’s Pinkpop 2010 festival on May 29th.   Learn more about John’s involvement with the show at JohnMayer.com.

ERIC HUTCHINSON WRITES ANOTHER NEW SONG

Eric Hutchinson has written a new song about a subject that was submitted by a fan.   This week’s tune comes from a student studying abroad in England who is homesick.   In her honor, the singer-songwriter decided to name this song “The U-S of A.”   See Eric performing it now at EricHutchinson.com.

EMINEM BEST SELLING RAPPER OF DECADE

MTV News reports Eminem has not only had a great 2009, but he’s the also best-selling rapper this past decade. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Slim Shady has reportedly sold a combined 32.2-million albums since the beginning of the millennium until now. The only other rapper who falls in the top ten is Nelly, whose Country Grammar album sold over 8.4-million units.

KINGS OF LEON RULE ITUNES CHARTS IN 2009

Kings of Leon ruled the iTunes charts in 2009. Their Only By The Night album was the top-selling record of the year and was “Editor’s Pick” for Album of the Year on iTunes. The band’s massive hit “Use Somebody” was the tenth best-selling tune of the year, and the group is up for four GRAMMYs for the track. To see if they win, tune into the big show on January 31st.

GREEN DAY: THE BEST OF THE DECADE

According to a poll by Rolling Stone, Green Day was very popular this past decade. “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” took the top spot as Best Single and their American Idiot album won Best Album among readers. That makes them, according to Rolling Stone readers, the most popular act of the decade. Well-done Green Day!

RIVERS IS DOING BETTER

Weezer.com has provided yet another update on singer Rivers Cuomo, who was involved in a bus accident on Sunday that left him badly injured. The site reports that Rivers had a cut in his spleen and a puncture in his lung, among the other injuries reported. He’s feeling better though, as the posted update says Rivers made it onto his feet this week and, with the aid of a walker, has been able to move around. His internal injuries continue to improve and he will likely be released in a few days. The site does say that he will not be able to fly after suffering a punctured lung in the accident so “getting home to L.A. will be an interesting adventure.” Weezer was forced to cancel all December tour dates in the wake of the crash.
