While his name might register on more than a few “newcomer” lists, Raphael Saadiq’s impressive resume stretches over two decades and time logged with classic groups Tony! Toni! Toné! and Lucy Pearl, before his solo bow in 2002 with Instant Vantage, a confident collection that landed a record-setting five Grammy nods.
After a six year hiatus, The Way I See It emerged in 2008 to a chorus of praise in the pages of Rolling Stone and landing at the number one slot on the iTunes Best Of list. Saadiq’s drive to re-prove himself reverberates from every moment of the album, a star-studded affair that boasts the talents of Joss Stone, Stevie Wonder and the incomparable king of New York, Jay Z. With a brand new video for The Way standout “Staying In Love,” and a song slated to appear in forthcoming indie film Precious, Saadiq kicked off a tour of the West Coast earlier this week.
