N.A.S.A. PINK ENEMY REMIX “WHACHADOIN’?”

NASAThanks, internet. You’ve leveled the playing field with 1’s, 0’s, and a few miles of fiberoptic cables and tubes. Making projects like this one — a massive collaborative jamboree between N.A.S.A.’s Squeak E. Clean, DJ Zegon and at least half of your iPod — possible, the web has eliminated borders and allowed music to be recorded, remixed and passed through the technological ether with little more than a click of a button.

But don’t think the veritable ease with which the guest-laden debut The Spirit of Apollo was assembled convince you worlds of time wasn’t spent on this piecemeal club-banger, a record that deserves to soundtrack every dance party in 2009. Indeed, while there are countless fingerprints on every track here, each song is meticulously crafted and cobbled together with vim and vigor by Clean and Zegon.

So, Tom Waits growls over Kool Keith. Karen O taunts while ODB gives a shout-out to Wu Tang and N.A.S.A. from the grave. It’s a surreal, rewarding experience, one that also includes David Byrne, Chuck D, Santogold, Lykke Li, Kanye, Lovefoxxx of CSS, George Clinton, M.I.A., Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Ghostface, and The Cool Kids. You know, just to name a few. Released earlier this year on Anti-, the record is a celebration of 2009, a testament to what the internet has allowed musicians to do. We owe it, and everyone involved with this project, a big fat thank you.
