Creative entrepreneur and rock legend Dave Stewart is confirmed to perform as a duo with France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy at Madison Square Garden in New York on July 18 to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 91st birthday. The concert will honor the former South African president and international symbol of reconciliation and forgiveness on the first annual global “Mandela Day.” Stewart and the First Lady will join other notable performers including Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, Cyndi Lauper, Jesse McCartney, Josh Groban and Wyclef Jean, among others. Celebrities participating in the festivities will appear along with a host of other entertainers at the concert which is the culmination of a week-long series of events in the city.
