Taking its name from a lyric from the aforementioned song–”so when the lights cut out, I was lost, standing in the wilderness downtown”–”The Wilderness Downtown” exemplifies the Google “Chrome Experience” and HTML5 technology, cueing the opening of multiple browser windows, visually incorporating viewers’ childhood addresses (if they are available via Google Street View) , allowing the viewers to write and share messages to their younger selves and more.

MIKE MIDWESTERN SETS ALBUM RELEASE DATE

Mike Midwestern has titled his new album “Inhibitors” which will be released on September 28, 2010. “Inhibitors”, his first official full length, is more or less an allegory of the death and rebirth of a family establishing its new roots. It will be available at local Twin Cities record stores and online through CD Baby and iTunes. Mike Midwestern will also be donating 20% of the proceeds from the album to Treehouse, a Twin Cities based non-profit organization. Treehouse offers hope, guidance, and unconditional love to at-risk teens, largely without family stability, dealing with tough issues such as depression/suicidal tendencies, substance abuse, truancy, and self-injury. Additionally, Mike Midwestern himself will be donating $2 to Treehouse for every copy of “Inhibitors” that is mailed out for promotional purposes.

KATY PERRY TOPS DIGITAL SONG CHART

The title track off Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album climbs to number one on the Digital Songs chart, selling over 259-thousand downloads.  This marks Perry’s second number one song of the year.  She reigned on the top for five weeks with the album’s first single, “California Gurls.”  Last week’s chart-topper, Lil Wayne’s “Right Above It,” tumbles to number ten, with 101-thousand downloads sold.

KATY PERRY TOPS ITUNES CHARTS

Katy Perry tops the iTunes album chart with Teenage Dream, while the title track is the most-downloaded song on the chart.  Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are,” Eminem’s former number one “Love The Way You Lie,” and “I Like It” from Enrique Iglesias round out the top five singles.  Meanwhile, Eminem’s Recovery, Randy Rogers Band’s Burning The Day, Fantasia’s Back to Me and Sigh No More from Mumford & Sons round out the top five albums on the site. 

KATY PERRY TO JUDGE AMERICAN X-FACTOR?

Could Katy Perry be a judge on the American version of Simon Cowell’s The X-Factor?  According to British paper the Daily Mail, Simon is ready to offer Perry a spot on his panel after he was impressed with how she did during her guest stint on the U-K version of the show. A source said that Cowell wants to get all the judges signed on and announced within the next six weeks, and that he’s ready to offer Perry a salary of 340-thousand dollars per show.

GAGA TO TAKE STAGE WITH YOKO IN L-A

We recently reported that following successful concerts in Brooklyn earlier this year, Yoko Ono will reprise her We Are Plastic Ono Band shows in L-A next month, and now, we know who will help her at the concerts.  Among the special guests expected at one of the two shows are Lady Gaga, Iggy Pop, Perry Farrell, rapper The RZA, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, actress Carrie Fisher and many others.  It all happens October 1st and 2nd at the Orpheum Theater.  Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com. 

WHAT DOES LADY GAGA EAT ON TOUR?

After fainting at a concert in New Zealand earlier this year, Lady Gaga has made sure to maintain healthy eating habits while traveling the world on her Monster Ball tour.  Gaga’s choreographer, LaurieAnn Gibson, told People.com that Gaga’s meals mainly consists of “salsa with grain chips, tofu, turkey slices, hummus and coconut water.”  She also mentioned that when they splurge, they’ll have “a toast or two with a little white wine!”  Read more at People.com.

GAGA GETS CHASTISED BY CANADIAN MAYOR

Before a recent show in Edmonton, Canada, Lady Gaga posted a picture on her Twitter page from inside Rexell Place arena, where the Edmonton Oilers play.  In the photo, the singer blanked out a letter in a banner that says “This is Oil Country” to make “country” have a bad word in it.  Gaga may have found it funny, but apparently city officials in Edmonton did not.  According to Edmonton.ctv.ca, local TV stations are refusing to show the picture, and Mayor Stephen Mandel said, “Some things are disgusting and you shouldn’t have to say they’re disgusting. GAGA TO TAKE TOUR TO MEXICO

Lady Gaga is heading south to Mexico.  According to PerezHilton.com, the singer will be taking her Monster Ball tour to the country for the first time in May of next year.  Tickets go on sale for shows in Zapopan and Mexico City on Monday.

LADY A AND MORE TO PLAY STAND UP 2 CANCER

Lady Antebellum, Leona Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield, Queen Latifah and Billie Joe Armstrong will join many musicians and celebrities this month to Stand Up to Cancer.  They are set to perform at the telethon on September 10th.  It’ll air on all major networks beginning at 8 PM Eastern. LEONA WORKS WITH RYAN TEDDER IN GERMANY

OneRepublic are in Europe touring, but that doesn’t mean that Ryan Tedder can’t keep working at his other job – as one of the most sought after producers in all of music.  Leona Lewis wrote on her Twitter account that she recently went to Frankfurt, Germany to record with Tedder, and that it was “so fun.”  Tedder was behind Lewis’ biggest single to date, “Bleeding Love.”

B.O.B. TO OPEN FOR JAY-Z AND EMINEM

According to Billboard.com, B.o.B has landed a great opening gig. The “Airplanes” rapper is expected to warm up the stage for the first two Jay-Z and Eminem concerts at Comerica Park in Detroit. Bobby Ray’s manager recently tweeted that he will be at the Tiger Stadium tonight getting the crowd ready for the two of hip hop’s biggest rappers. 

KANYE TO DROP MOVIE WITH NEW ALBUM

MTV News reports Kanye West has filmed a movie in Prague to accompany his upcoming album, Dark Twisted Fantasy. ‘Ye recently tweeted: “Been shooting 16 hour days. … I’m so excited. … It’s like a child’s delusions become reality.” It’s still unknown what the flick is about.

RIHANNA SHOOTS NEW FILM

Photos of Rihanna dressed in army fatigues and combat boots have surfaced online. The singer was spotted walking on the set of the film adaptation of the game Battleship. LAURYN HILL SPEAKS ABOUT NEXT LP

According to MTV News, Lauryn Hill has opened up about her highly anticipated album. The reclusive singer, who hasn’t released a studio effort in 12 years, says she’s “getting closer” to completing it. BEYONCE STILL MANAGED BY HER FATHER

There have been conflicting reports suggesting that Beyonce and her father/manager, Mathew Knowles, have ended their working relationship due to personal issues. However, a rep from Music World Entertainment has released the following statement, “Contrary to false rumors online, Beyoncé and her manager Mathew Knowles unequivocally have had and continue to have a close personal and business relationship. Mathew Knowles is the sole and exclusive manager of Beyoncé.” There you have it.

AMY WINEHOUSE HAS ANOTHER GREAT RECORD IN HER

Amy Winehouse won the world over with her Back to Black album in 2006 and since then, everyone has been waiting to hear what she’ll do next. Will her next album live up to the hype? Here’s Back to Black producer Mark Ronson (See Related Cut #5). Ronson has his own album coming out this year. It’s called Record Collection and drops on October 5th.

BLACK CROWES FRONTMAN DISSES TAYLOR SWIFT

Chris Robinson, who fronts the rock group the Black Crowes, has lashed out against Taylor Swift in the recent issue of Nylon Guys magazine. He said, “I find it embarrassing that adults are like, ‘Taylor Swift is very talented.’ She’s not. She might be cute, but she’s horrible.” He also mentioned he doesn’t listen to new music these days because artists lack talent. Chris went on to say, “They have stylists who dress them, they make records with producers who play a chord into the computer and it all comes out the same… When you have computers doing it all for you … there’s no individuality.” Though Chris may not think highly of Taylor, many of her fans are highly anticipating the October 25th release of her next album, Speak Now.

KINGS OF LEON CANCEL CONCERTS?

KELLY PRICE EXPLAINS SUPER GROUP SPLIT

During an interview with SingersRoom.com, Kelly Price revealed what happened to the Queen Project with Tamia and Deborah Cox.  The soulful singer explained that even though “the entire album was recorded in two weeks,” the group failed because “too many people involved and the end result was we were unable to get it done in a time frame that would have allowed us to work the record and tour properly.” She hopes they’ll get to “release it at a later date with proper touring,” but Kelly is focused on dropping her first album in five years very soon.

GAGA HATES CELL PHONES

Does Lady Gaga not like using cell phones?  According to NME.com, multiple sources from the U-K are reporting that the pop star refuses to touch her cell because she is “scared of getting a brain tumor,” so she makes a member of her entourage hold it for her.  A source says that the chance of something bad happening to her as a result of the phone has “really freaked her out.”

BIEBER ROCKS THE GARDEN

Justin Bieber may have canceled his show Sunday after battling a brief illness, but he’s bounced back and took the stage at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden last night. The VMA-nominated teen took the Garden stage, where he shot part of his upcoming 3-D movie. The film’s director, Jon Chu, told MTV News that the film is both for Bieber’s fans and for people who don’t know much about the singer.  The film is going to tell his underdog story of where he came and how he became a huge pop sensation.

RIHANNA TO DROP NEW SINGLE

Rihanna made waves in the Twitter-verse when she took over her account from her record label on Friday.  The singer posted a few pics of herself, gave a shout-out to Ne-Yo and then sent a tweet to Ryan Seacrest saying she is sending him a new song to play in 10 days.  She wrote that he is going to play it over and over.  No word on the title of the song, but Rihanna released a new song titled “Only Girl” in the U-K this week.

According to Rap-Up.com, a wax replica of Rihanna has landed at Madame Tussauds wax museum in Washington, D.C. The “Rock Star” singer’s statue now stands next to President Barack Obama, Madonna, Rosa Parks, Denzel Washington and others. The saying “What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas” apparently doesn’t apply to P!nk.  The pop star took to her Twitter account to write that she had a “girl’s night” in Sin City that left her with a lot of questions.  Those apparently include, “Whose jeans are these? CASCADA SCORES VMA NOD!

Cascada has received an MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Dance Video for their hit song, “Evacuate the Dancefloor,” directed by Max Nichols. This is the first nomination for the multi-platinum group, which is comprised of German based/U-K born singer Natalie Horler and producers/songwriters DJ Manian and Yanou Peifer. “Evacuate The Dancefloor” peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, hit number one on the iTunes Dance Chart in the U-S, and hit number one in the U-K. The video has received over 50-million YouTube views and the song has been certified platinum in the U-S with over one-million downloads.

LINKIN PARK ADDED TO MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

MTV has just announced that Linkin Park will perform their new single, “The Catalyst,” for the first time ever during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The song is off the band’s forthcoming album, A Thousand Suns. The group will join previously confirmed performers including Usher, Paramore, Eminem, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B, Florence + The Machine. Chelsea Handler hosts the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, which air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12th at 9 PM (Live Eastern/Tape delayed Pacific).

LINKIN PARK LISTENING PARTY AND LASER LIGHT SHOW

LADY A GEAR UP FOR FALL NEED YOU NOW TOUR

Lady Antebellum are preparing for the very first headlining tour of their career, and they promise that there will be elements of the show fans haven’t seen before. The band is putting together the final touches on production and lighting, and Charles Kelley wrote on his Twitter page that they want “really cool bells and whistles.”  The Need You Now fall tour is already off to a good start as Lady A sold out the James Brown Theatre in Georgia in under seven minutes. Charles also tweeted, “It’s actually going to be a real professional show finally … ha! It’s gonna be one of the greatest experiences of the three of our lives and I hope everyone walks away feeling like they’ve gotten to know Lady A a little bit better.” The Need You Now tour kicks off September 20th in Orlando, Florida.

DRAKE TO DROP NEW ALBUM THIS YEAR?

If going platinum from his debut album, Thank Me Later, wasn’t enough, Drake could potentially release another effort this year! According to MTV News, Young Money president Mack Maine explained that the rap star revealed that he already “has the intro done for the new album.” As for Drizzy’s forthcoming R&B mixtape, It’s Never Enough, Mack promises “he’s gonna put that out quick.” The CEO added that Drake’s “formula is crazy” because “he’s a musical genius.” No release dates for either project are known at this time. We’ve previously reported that even though B.o.B is signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle label, mega-producer Jim Jonsin deserves major credit for recruiting Bobby Ray as the first artist on Rebel Rock Entertainment. UMF EXPANDS TO BRAZIL

The Ultra Music Festival, which is an electronic and dance music festival, will take place in São Paulo, Brazil in November.  UMF Brazil will features Fatboy Slim, Moby and many more spinning for the delight of the dance faithful.  It all happens on Saturday, November 6th, starting at 4 PM and going strong until 6 AM the next day.

The band has been playing a new song titled “Every Breaking Wave” during the set right after their classic song “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” In Vienna this week, Bono described the band by days of the week saying drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. is a Friday night man, Edge takes Saturday night and Adam is best on a Sunday. AMY WINEHOUSE LIVING WITH PETE DOHERTY?

There’s an Amy Winehouse rumor flying around that is so ridiculous that it couldn’t possibly be true – right?  Well according to British paper The Sun, Winehouse has invited former drinking buddy Pete Doherty to live in her London home.  A source says that Winehouse wants to help her friend out, but that “pals are worried because they are bad influences on each other.” The paper reports that the last time the two “spent a lot of time together they ended up off their nuts posting videos on YouTube surrounded by a load of cats.”  Learn more about the rumor at TheSun.co.uk.

MADONNA USES HER OWN FURNITURE FOR W.E.

Madonna is involved with every aspect of her new movie, W.E – so much so that apparently she’s even donating her own personal furniture to be used as props.  According to the New York Post, Madge has brought some pieces for the film to London from her home in New York City in an effort to save some money.  Her rep wouldn’t directly confirmed this, only reiterating that Madonna is involved with “all aspects” of the project.

SARA BAREILLE’ NEW ALBUM IS ALMOST HERE
