Bongo Boy Records Release ‘Homestead Vol. 3 by Various Artists’

This is the 3rd release in the album series started by Bongo Boy Records to feature Americana talents.

The Darryl Morris Band explores a sense of tenderness on the gorgeous “My Name”. Full of passion the song is sung straight from the heart. Instrumentally rich they employ a country twang to great effect.

Giddy energy ties all of Danny Kensy’s “Pocketful of Money” together. Done with such style the track has a wry sense of humor. The raw grit and soul work particular wonders.

Deft storytelling comes into the fray on Annemarie Picerno’s rollicking “Discount Tobacco and Beer”. Guitars weave together further adding to the song’s inherent honesty. Rushing through with such force the piece has a commanding, bluesy presence.

On “Move Along” Jaded Past lets the harmonica sing. With a portrait of a life lived to the fullest the song has a contemplative spirit. Volume deserves to be blasted for the song is intended to be felt as well as heard.

A sense of poetry informs Frank Trousdell’s “Little Girl, Big City”. Featuring a big band quality, the song swings along. The communal spirit adds to the simultaneous sense of togetherness and loneliness of city life.

With “Down On The Farm” Todd Barrow embraces a honky-tonk approach. The piano swings in perfect unison with the unhinged guitar work. By far the highlight comes from Todd Barrow’s soothing, optimistic vocals.

Nimble rhythms pour through on Jay Jourden and The Suwannee River Coalition’s powerful “Save Our Suwannee”. Quite articulate the lyricism centers upon a single issue, the loss of a beautiful river. Any attempt to thwart a mighty river ends up resulting in destroying whole ecosystems and ways of life.

Monique Sherrell Brown crafts a timeless sound on the raw grit and soul of “Wishing You The Best”. Evolution of the sound shows off their impeccable bluesy chops. Sly grooves rumble through with such passion.

Swinging through with the sweetness of the slide guitar Bobby Rue sings a tale of together on “Just Lookin’ For Peace”. Happiness radiates through as the track reflects upon the sadness of conflict, longing for respect for each other. Full of hope the piece lingers in the mind courtesy of the careful arrangement.

Donald Miclette gives country rock a great jagged edge on the wild style of “Country Storm”. Aptly named, the track feels like a real force of nature. The buildup of the sound goes for a visceral quality as it truly rises up.

Dreamy to its very core, Calico brings a bit of magic into the narrative of “She’s Like A Weatherman”. Full of compassion the piece opts for highly detailed lyricism. Layer upon layer comes into the fray with a gentle disposition.

Folk musings filter into Ann M. Wolf’s serene “Simple Gifts”. Things are kept to the absolute essentials to let the emotion pour through. Rhythms have a pastoral beauty to them while they keep a light touch.

Reflection defines “I Don’t Think It’s Hit Me Yet” where Adam Jacob sings with such power. Highly intimate Adam Jacob lets the whole track feel so effortlessly balanced. The sprawling nature gives the song a rather soothing quality.

Linda Faye Carson and LodeStar enter into a mellow world on “Walking On Mountaintops feat. Rob Diggins and Caterina Delaisla”. A light, airy rhythm reigns supreme as the rest of the track swirls about in a soothing manner. For this particular piece small gestures manner greatly as the song feels warm and inviting.

Bringing it all to a majestic close is Donald Miclette’s “In The Eyes of a Child”. Over the course of the song Donald Miclette explores concepts of faith with such vigor. Everything comes together into a gorgeous stream of consciousness.
