Karine Polwart | Shares new single
A Pocket Of Wind Resistance used the migratory habits of geese to crack open universally human societal & ecological issues. Across Laws of Motion Polwart continues to coalesce the familial and the familiar alongside the unsettling and the unknown, driven as ever by her gift for empathy and accessibility. Subject matter as disparate as Trump, WW2 & holocaust survivors are drawn together by the laws of the album’s title alongside the experiences of migrants and allegorical folk & children’s stories. Speaking about the broad focus of the album (which includes several co-writes with Martin Green), Polwart says; “I didn’t set out to write songs on a unified theme – they’ve just landed that way. Perhaps that’s no surprise, given the times we’re in.”

A-Trak debuts video for “DJs Gotta Dance More”
Of the song A-Trak explains, “I released ‘DJs Gotta Dance More’ over the summer. It’s very dear to me because it talks about all the rituals and experiences you go through when you learn how to produce music: digging for samples, discovering influences, and convincing your parents to let you make noise at the house! Getting Todd Terry to speak on the record was a blessing: he represents a New York state of mind, and a kinship between hip hop and house, which is a huge part of my identity.
Reliant Tom release the dark new single “Happy Birthday”
“Happy Birthday was partly influenced by the first time Monte came home to Texas to meet my parents for the first time. My mom is a very mysterious character- even to me. She’s smart, sometimes cutting, she’s strong, sometimes stubborn. She has a tendency to let her depression take over her but she’s also hilarious in a wry kind of way. Monte’s visit happened to fall onto my Mom’s birthday. The whole family was trying to plan a nice dinner out to celebrate but my mom came out in a bathrobe and said, I just want to stay in bed and be left alone today, and then disappeared into the darkness of her bedroom. I completely understood this impulse all too well and wanted to write about it.” -Claire Cuny
