His part, rapped more than sung, is the purest version of what I admire in French poetry. I’m proud of this collaboration, it’s probably my favourite song I’ve ever been part of.”
Colin Stetson shares unsettling “Charlie” from ‘Hereditary’
Scoring duties on Hereditary — an upcoming horror film directed by newcomer Ari Aster — came to Colin Stetson (Lavender, collaborator of Arcade Fire), and he’s conjured an instant classic where the end result is a uniquely uneasy, sinister suite of music capped with one of the most unexpected conclusions in recent years – listeners will find themselves totally possessed. Stetson is equally at home in the avant jazz tradition of players who have pushed the boundaries of the instrument through circular breathing, embouchure, etc. (i.e. Evan Parker, Mats Gustafsson) and at the nexus of noise/drone/minimalist music that encompasses genres like dark metal, post-rock and contemporary electronics (i.e. Tim Hecker, Ben Frost – both of whom have mixed or remixed Stetson recordings).
