Musician stabbed on tour in WA
Melbourne duo This Way North were just 6 shows into their massive 21 date EP launch tour when singer Leisha Jungalwalla was stabbed by a stingray deep above both ankles at Cervantes beach in WA early last week.
Just seconds prior, Leisha was admiring the perfection of Dolphins playing at the shoreline, when she decided to wade into a rock pool, to the shock of the camouflaged stingray. The quick thinking musician managed to climb up the rocks and hobble over to a local Lobster Factory, bleeding from both ankles.
Pre-listen to “ONCE” by “Taken By Trees”
In a seemingly complex world of confused politics, anger and violence, Victoria offers a rare jewel to soothe and brighten the darkness. This was at least her commitment with the Taken by Trees forth and latest studio album, ‘Yellow to Blue’, her most playful and hopeful creation to date, lying at the perfect crossroad between indie and commercial. ‘Once’ is a taste of this new musical and emotional headspace, and in a world of trend followers, Victoria Bergman is still distinctly herself; revered for her style and innovativeness, boundless approach to creativity and artistic integrity.
Aisha Burns Announces New LP ‘Argonauta’ out 5/25/18
Argonauta is a collection of songs about Burns’ struggle with the grief of losing her mother, while also navigating a new relationship, and ultimately trying to figure out what the new normal is for her life. The follow up to her 2013 debut, Life in the Midwater, the self-produced new album sees Burns continuing the vulnerable and honest thread of her lingering feelings of darkness — and depression — while also maintaining hope for the future. “Argonauta is the child of a strange chasm in my life, the space where both unfathomable, debilitating loss and new love and hope reside,” says Burns. “In an attempt to process this romantic love, the loss of my mother who lived her life as my confidant and dearest friend, and the hope of someday gaining acceptance of life’s ever-shifting cycles, these songs emerged. I had to write this record to give voice to the depression, anxiety and uncertainty I endured while grieving.” Writing Argonauta served as a relief valve for Burns; now the eight sumptuous, haunting songs — led by her captivating, densely layered vocals — extend a similar balm for listeners.

Rie | Share’s video for ‘Benevolent Creature’
Whereas Rié’s music has previously touched on themes of isolation and relocation, this time, with the pulsating electronica of ‘Benevolent Creature’, Rié observes humanity’s more pensive and pertinent issues. Addressing the notion of a ‘problem’ – something that she metaphorically characterises as the ‘creature’ – Rié asserts the necessity of compassion and benevolence when dealing with issues. “Whether it’s a mental issue, alcohol or drug addiction, or simply a bad relationship, I can’t name one person who lives a 100% problem-free life,” says Rié. “The only way is to look at that ‘creature’ in the eye; and this song by no means is an evangelistic attempt to save people, but I do want to convey the message to take it by the hand (and) don’t look away.”
