Kali Uchis debuts the video for “After The Storm”—featuring longtime friend and collaborator Tyler, The Creator and funk legend Bootsy Collins, with production by BADBADNOTGOOD—today, watch it here. The surreal video, shot in Los Angeles, was directed by filmmaker Nadia Lee Cohen (D.R.A.M., A$AP Rocky, Juicy J).
“We can find solace in the fact that we have to go through the bad stuff to truly get to the good,” says Uchis of the track. “Just because you’re losing at the moment doesn’t mean you’ve lost yet. The storm may be scary now but it’s how your flowers bloom later, and paradise is just beyond the rainbow.”
Uchis is currently touring North America in support of Lana Del Rey, with further dates, including a stop at Coachella, set for later this year. Her debut album is set for release this spring on Interscope Records/Virgin EMI Records.
Uchis is nominated for a 2017 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance for her collaboration with Daniel Caesar, “Get You,” and was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Record of the Year for her song with Juanes, “El Ratico.”
Raised between Virginia and her parents’ native Colombia, Kali Uchis’ first studio project, Por Vida, was released in 2015 to acclaim from the likes of The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, Pitchfork and The FADER, whose cover she graced this year. Uchis has collaborated and shared stages with Gorillaz, Diplo, Major Lazer, Tyler The Creator, Snoop Dogg, Kaytranada, Leon Bridges and more.
