Delicate and tender in tone, Abigail Winzer’s “Rejoice” is a warm inviting album. Over the course of the album her attention to detail results in lovely melodies that shimmer like stars in the night sky. Her voice has an angelic quality to it as it embodies a sense of true calm and contemplation. Best taken in as a whole, the songs work together to create a mood of awe and wonder with the world. Instrumentally, she brings in a wide variety of sounds that create an interesting mix of classical and folk.

Hushed and blissful is the mellowed arrangement of “O Holy Night”. Layer upon layer of sound comes together ever so elegantly to create a deeply moving work. Abigail Winzer’s voice simply soars into the sky as she builds the song up with her powerful performance. Playful in nature is the glistening melody of “What Child Is This” whose adherence to a quiet contemplative tempo is rather gorgeous. By far the highlight of the album is the soothing “Silent Night” where all of the elements (horn, piano, etc.) merge to form a vast blanket of sound. Resonant with its deep hues of color is the majestic “O Come O Come Emmanuel”. Stripping the sound down to the essentials is the passionate “The First Noel” led by the nimble acoustic guitar. Bringing the album to a close is the celebration of “O Come All Ye Faithful”.
Abigail Winzer’s “Rejoice” has a wintery joy to it.
