Skope was fortunate enough to chat with Joe Melillo. Join us as Joe speaks on his summer, new music, and so much more!
Skope: Where are we talking from today and how is your summer going so far?
I’m at my home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. I’m on vacation from my day job, and just enjoying my home town!!
Summer’s been very busy, but in a good way!! Lots going on in New York!! I can’t get to it all, but I like having all these options!!
Skope: Do you have any new music or audio that you have posted online that we should check out?
My newest release came out about a year ago. It’s called “Climb High”, and is a song written in honor of iMentor, an organization with whom I’ve been volunteering for sixteen years, almost since its inception. iMentor is the most importnat thing I do with my time. It’s more important to me than my job, and even my music. It’s an opportunity to have a direct, positive outcome onthe life of an inner-city high school student.
iMentor’s goal is to get inner-city high school stuents to pursue higher education. I’ve captured this in song, and 100% of the proceeds from the song go directly to iMentor.

Skope: When you go to consume music what do you prefer such as Youtube, Pandora, Amazon MP3, etc?
My favorite medium to become exposed to new music is old-school radio!! I also get exposed in clubs, either from cover bands performing new music, or DJs playing it between sets. Once I become familiar with a song, and wish to purchase it, Amazon is my usual service of choice. However, if I don’t own a song, or I don’t have it with me, I’ll look for it on YouTube.
Skope: 2 years from now where would you like to see your music?
Ideally, I’d like to get discovered by as wide an audience as possible, and go on a World tour with my brand-new band!! But I’d be happy if I was just able to keep writing, singing, and recording!! The creative outlet is MUCH more important than the commercial success!!
Skope: What is coming up for you and where you @ online?
I’m always out performing with karaoke bands in New York City. My next original performance will be on October 6th at The Greenhouse Cafe in Bay Ridge (http://www.greenhousecafe.com).
