An important aspect of all app marketing plans lies in choosing app keywords. Most developers struggle with keyword selection. The following are some valuable tricks to help you perfectly optimize your keywords:
Use Commas Instead Of Spaces
App Store reads spaces as keywords that are nonsensical in nature. The use of spaces is unnecessary. It reduces drastically the amount of keywords you can use because spaces end up counted as characters. According to the App Store algorithm, both commas and spaces are separators. Therefore, the next time you will be filling your keywords field, refrain from writing your keywords as “magical, amazing, things, to, do.” Instead, write them as “magical, amazing, things to do.”
Cut stop words and connectors
Words such as to, for, the, of, and a, are overly generic. In fact, they hardly impact your keyword pool in any way. This is even when making random keywords with other phrases. It is much better to put more relevant words in the space that such generic words occupy.
There is an exception. If you are targeting certain specific keywords that use any of the words for one reason or another, then there might be a need to leave the word in the key phrases field. For instance, the search for “strategy of war” will not show your application in the search results if you omit “of”.
Do Not Repeat Keywords
This presents another mistake you should avoid at all cost. For example, if “incredible hero battle” and “amazing silver hero” are the key phrases that you are aiming, avoid repeating the key phrase “hero.” Just leave your list looking like this “amazing, silver, incredible, hero, battle.”
The same is true for those key phrases in App Name. For instance, if your app goes by the name, “The Silver Hero,” there is no need for repeating the key phrases “hero” and “silver.” Just use this short keyword list “amazing, incredible, battle.”
For a language (s) other than English, consider using typos and plurals
Plurals are of no importance for keywords. They are useless, to say the least. The App Store algorithm theoretically combines results for both plural and singular versions thus making no difference in choosing them. Just go to the App Store and conduct a search for both singular and plurals. You will be amazed by how the results will change. For sure, the algorithm isn’t as intelligent as it really looks. A similar situation happens when you deal with other languages apart from English. To be on the safe side, treat plurals as totally different keywords. Look at your traffic and competition.
To obtain more keyword combinations, use shorter ones
This trick is very simple – you can use two 4-character keywords, to replace 9-character keywords. So what does this mean? It simply means that more possible search results shall be available to rank for. Of great importance to note is that keyword relevance, and not word length, is the important element of keyword analysis.
