HAPPY FANGS “LONE WOLVES”
Guitarist Michael Cobra states: “Lone Wolves” is one of the last songs we wrote for the album. Rebecca and I collaborated on the lyrics as we wanted them to fit well with how heavy and fast the music was. It originated as vignettes about people I hung out with as a kid. I grew up in a small town in Kansas and anyone there that didn’t conform to the norm, loners, punks, skaters, metal kids, goth kids, all ended up hanging out together because there was nobody else to fit in with. These were the people that introduced me to punk, metal, art and sub-cultures that were from from the wheat fields we were surrounded by. “Lone Wolves” is about having a club of people that could care less about fitting into a club. It’s about finding your tribe.

THE BLACK TWIG PICKERS NEW SINGLE
Steve Gunn will follow his breakout 2014 album Way Out Weather, which received numerous year-end accolades, with Seasonal Hire, a collaborative release with Virginia old-time troupe The Black Twig Pickers out February 24th. Steve and the Twigs are key figures in the current resurgence of American traditional and folk music. Gunn’s songwriting and inventive guitar playing are driven by his restless mind, having released 9 solo and collaborative albums and appeared as a guest on nearly as many since his debut in 2007. The Black Twig Pickers play a fervent form of traditional music from their Appalachian homeland. The group performs often forgotten traditional songs, especially from their Virginia stomping-ground, creating a living history of old time music. They also have an ongoing residency at the legendary Floyd Country Store. Their individual works have received extensive praise from Rolling Stone, NPR, the BBC, Mojo, Uncut, Maverick, Elmore, and Pitchfork. Seasonal Hire, their first full-length collaborative release, combines Gunn’s circular, meditative guitar playing with the Twigs’ energetic mastery of old time instrumentation in a purely acoustic environment resulting in a warm, energetic, and exceptional album.

THE JOURNEYS ALTERNATIVE PRESS MUSIC AWARDS

This year’s AP Music Awards, sponsored by Journeys, will take place on July 22, 2015, held again in Alternative Press Magazine’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, a city being touted as a top travel location for 2015 by key travel blogs and publications such as Fodor’s and the LA Times. WILLIAM RYAN FRITCH “IN DENIAL”
Fritch is a composer, but he isn’t comfortable with that term. He has little in common with most contemporary composers. Most ambient, minimalist, and modern classical music leaves him wanting, and he’s clueless when it comes to that electro-acoustic shtick, though he is often grouped into that category. Until a few years ago, he couldn’t read a lick of music. He employs no virtual instruments, plugins, or libraries, just a bunch of raggedy, second-hand instruments he constantly recontextualizes in his studio, the compositional content of every piece flowing from the originating sound itself. The pieces don’t exist separate from the arrangements; they are the arrangements.

THE REZILLOS ARE BACK
First Wave UK punk stalwarts, THE REZILLOS have re-emerged with a brand new album ZERO, which will be released on March 10, 2015 via Metropolis Records. Their first full length release since their one and only studio album Can’t Stand the Rezillos, The Rezillos have dusted off their instruments to deliver a second incendiary blast – the first leaving an indelible mark during the first explosion of Punk Rock.
Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1976, The Rezillos rose out of the punk/new wave scene at the advent of the whole movement. Although emerging at the same time as other bands in that realm, the Rezillos did not share the nihilism of social commentary of some of their contemporaries, but took a more left-field approach to their songs, preferring to describe themselves at the time as “a New Wave beat group” more in line with B-52s and The Cramps then their more political peers.

TYLER HILTON IN STUDIO VIDEO
Tyler Hilton, also known for his turn portraying Elvis Presley in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line and as Chris Keller on the show One Tree Hill, has made a name for himself in the musical world through his earnest lyrical content and detail-oriented songwriting. His major label debut The Tracks of Tyler Hilton was released a decade ago (2004) on Warner Bros. Records. In the time since, Tyler has recorded covers for the critically beloved Walk The Line soundtrack and has appeared on each of the One Tree Hill season soundtracks. In 2012, Tyler self-released a very raw, honest record in Forget The Storm. On that album we got to see Tyler really develop as a songwriter forming his own sound, which Rolling Stone compared to a modern Howie Day.
