OAKLAND PSYCH-TINGED POST-PUNK TRIO MALL WALK PREMIERE SELF-TITLED EP
Drummer Nicholas Clark and bassist Daniel Brown represent the muscle behind the EP, whereas Miller takes a deliberately restrained, tactical approach to guitar playing. On “Teen Missing,” the cyclical exchange between bass and drums promises something surfy and rollicking, only for the song to conclude with two minutes of anarchic guitar that subverts expectations considerably. With “Treadmill,” the band constructs a huge, immersive space with as little as possible, while Miller describes life as a boring slog through semi-comical disappointments.

The world is full of living musicians, but what it really craves are dead ones. With one foot still in the grave, The Ghost of Brooklyn is a real ghost from Green-Wood Cemetery. Not the scary nighttime variety, but a friendly musical ghost that meditates, plays guitar and prowls the city streets in search of good vegan food. At night, instead of boozing, whoring and scaring the shit out of people he heads back to the graveyard to watch Youtube. Born in 1881 (or about that time), The Ghost of Brooklyn is an animated corpse raised for musical purposes. Cursed with authenticity and tremendous songwriting talent, his raw punchy sound will haunt you.

The new video for Ex Hex’s “Waterfall” was directed by NYC underground cartoonist M. Wartella, who has been called the “Roger Corman of cartoons” and is the creative mind behind recent animated videos for King Tuff, Black Bananas, and Sweden’s Teddybears. Wartella explains his B-movie approach: “It’s basically Rock & Roll Space Vixens invade Washington, DC. I wanted to give the awesome ladies of Ex Hex the Ed Wood treatment and create something like a Russ Meyer or Corman film: Fast, Cheap & Out of Control.”

NYC TRIO NEW MYTHS SHARE POLISHED DEBUT “GIVE ME NOISE”
New Myths is a NYC based trio made up of Rosie Slater (drums and vocals), Marina Ross (bass and vocals) and Brit Boras (guitar and lead vocals), also a member of Brooklyn based band Future Punx. After being brought together through a string of personal connections- Ross and Slater played together in a band throughout high school, Slater and Boras went to the same jazz conservatory for college, and Boras and Ross were childhood neighbors, the band was formed in 2012. Inspired by the different music they all loved, everything from Blondie to the Cure to Heart to Kate Bush and Joy Division, the music of New Myths is a combination of electronic elements with a new wave sensibility.

A “band” is always a corset for creativity and opportunities – thus, two Austrian producers explore new musical territories: each song with different musicians. For the recordings of the debut album “Nom De Guerre”, Chronic City started travelling together with a mobile recording studio. Each track has to find its ideal partner in order to develop the right atmosphere for a song. Either dreamy such as “Ocean Of Luxury ft. Sleep Sleep”, dancey as in “Vertigo” (with Austrian pop veteran Bilgeri) or as tricky as in Sir Tralala’s contribution to “Mountains of Hope”: the direction, in which the song is supposed to develop, often becomes clear only during short meetings.
