NEW VIDEO BY THE VACANT LOTS
With a minimalist aesthetic of rock n’ roll The Vacant Lots are bringing their hypnotic sonic assault with the release of Departure on July 1, 2014 via Sonic Cathedral. Blending an angular interplay of guitars and electronics with geometric-laden riffs on their debut LP, The Vacant Lots create their most compelling work to date. Departure’s opener, “Mad Mary Jones,” is a synthesis of adrenaline-driven guitars fueled with electronic and percussive intensity. “6 AM” is a sensory overload strobing with frenetic hypno-monotony set against a backdrop of controlled chaos, while “Make The Connection” contrasts ritualistic tremolo drones against Native American rhythms and spoken word lingering between the pendulum of The Velvets and Lautreamont. For “Tomorrow” the band enlisted longtime friend Dean Wareham to add additional layers and solo on guitar while the mixing and mastering were carried out by Sonic Boom at his New Atlantis Studio in the UK.

WIRE: DAN SARTAIN PREMIERES VIDEO FOR ‘PASS THIS ON’
Dan Sartain follows 2012’s Ramones-suffused ‘Too Tough to Live’ with an altogether-more-eclectic proposition in the shape of DUDESBLOOD, released April 29th through One Little Indian. Across its 10 songs, Dan careers between the paranormal John Ford country and western of ‘Marfa Lights’, to UK anarcho-punk,;‘Smash The Tesco’, as well as a truly inspired take on The Knife’s ‘Pass This On’, which also happens to be the album’s lead single on April 22nd and premiered this week on Clash Music in the UK. WIRE: THEE OH SEES NEW VIDEO ON SPIN.COM
Our lad John P. Dwyer has been lancing eardrums with Thee Oh Sees in an ever escalating flurry of records for the past 6 years. Since the release of “The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In” announced a new loud era and excepting a few momentary detours into home-baked territory (“Dog Poison” and “Castlemania” for example), JPD and company have pummeled a bit harder each time out, cemented their reputation as a live force to be reckoned with, and have left legions sweaty and bruised in the process. Late last year, after years of relentlessly touring the world, the word got out…Dwyer’s moving to LA (fear not, still California!) and Thee Oh Sees are taking a much needed hiatus with a shifting of gears ahead and a new album on the way. This is that album.

WIRE: NEW VIDEO BY NOOCH “FEEL THIS”
HotNewHipHop premieres the video for “Feel This,” a serenade-like track by the young rapper Nooch. The 18 year old D.C. artist, signed to Oy Boyz Records, creates a vibe that differs from his recent street-style single, “Too Many” feat. Fat Trel. With smooth lines and quips, Nooch manages to take what he’s learned about music and form his own sound rather than copying his influences directly. Over incredible aerial shots of D.C., Nooch is invited over by a beautiful, lonely woman, only to emit a swagger far beyond his years. Says Nooch, “I’m young but you couldn’t tell if you ain’t know.”

DANNY GOKEY NEW ALBUM JUNE 24
BMG recording artist Danny Gokey is set to make his highly anticipated return with the extraordinary new album, “HOPE IN FRONT OF ME.” The album — which includes the current chart-climbing single, “Hope In Front Of Me” — arrives on June 24th.
Acclaimed singer, author, and American Idol favorite, Danny Gokey made an indelible first impression with 2010’s record-breaking debut album, “MY BEST DAYS.” Now, after four years of creative development and production, the multi-talented artist/performer is ready to unveil his stunning second album, a moving and deeply personal collection that marks an immense leap forward in craft, performance, and emotional impact. Described by Gokey as “songs of hope and entertainment,” “HOPE IN FRONT OF ME” sees him joining forces with some of today’s most honored songwriters and producers, including award-winning “Producer of the Year” Bernie Herms (Natalie Grant, Casting Crowns, Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli), multiple GRAMMY ® Award-winner Keith Thomas (Amy Grant, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Heather Headley, Vanessa Williams), and Josh Crosby (Cher, Owl City, Matt Kearny). Resonant with hard-earned soulfulness and redemptive compassion, the album confirms Danny Gokey as a groundbreaking artist with a rare gift for deep connection with audiences everywhere.

DBT’s ever-keen political edge can also be seen on the release. Cooley’s “Made Up English Oceans” derives from his interest in the career of Lee Atwater, the Republican operative who was active in the Reagan and Bush campaigns of the ‘80s. “He was the guy that Karl Rove and all of the modern dirty tricksters looked to — he was one of the granddaddies of it all. That song is from his point of view, fictionally of course. It’s him making his pitch, telling what he understands about young, Southern men.” Courtesy of GQ, watch HERE as a good girl goes bad with the Bible by her side in the song’s new video, directed by Joshua Black Wilson (The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, Willie Nelson).
DEREK LUTTRELL POSTS “WAYSIDE”
Derek Luttrell — tired-yet-eager eyes, sunken shoulders — displays the body language of a shelter dog who’d really, really love to get adopted but doesn’t want to be an imposition. Which is to say he’s exactly the kind of shaggy-haired dude you want to bring home and let crawl inside your heart.
The same must be said for Derek’s songs, which both simmer patiently and boil over with warmth and life, often within a matter of moments. To take the pulse of Tired Dogs, Old Trees — Derek’s first fully-arranged full-length, recorded and produced with the help of Miles Nielsen and Daxx Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Daniel James McMahon, and Monica Martin (of Phox), among others — is to get lost in the pensive pitter-patter of an unpretentious folk ballad before being thrust upright for the thump-thump-thumping of a soil-scattering Americana jam.

FREE LP BY MALLY ‘THE COLORS OF BLACK’
If The Last Great, the debut album from MaLLy, was meant to be a chest-thumping, boastful, and triumphant effort that finally broke MaLLy to the masses, The Colors of Black is the direct result of what would have been the end result if The Last Great never came into existence. Throughout the duration of The Colors of Black, MaLLy uses it as a vehicle to present the pressures of race, acceptance, and the politics, or lack thereof, in current day Hip-Hop and himself. It allows MaLLy to utilize his sharp wordplay to paint vivid depictions of what would’ve came to be of Malik Watkins, or what already is. Last Word’s production provides MaLLy with a dark, ominous, and bleak sound to take MaLLy’s dark imagery and expansive wordplay to new heights, like graffiti on pissed-stained walls of abandoned complexes that once housed hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the past.

LOUIS PRIMA JR. AND THE WITNESSES TO RELEASE “BLOW” JUNE 10
A different kind of musical dawn is coming with flashes of rowdy big band, simmering soul and swaggering rock ‘n’ roll as Louis Prima Jr. and the Witnesses prepare to ignite a new legacy with their second full-length album, Blow out June 10 on Warrior Records/Universal Music Distribution.
With Blow, Prima and the Witnesses revive a boogie woogie spirit for the modern generation. “The message is to have a good time and enjoy life,” explains Prima. “Get up and move. This album is hyper. It makes you want to dance.” Not content to sit on the legacy they so passionately protect, LPJ and the band are taking a page from his father’s playbook, by wailing “Prima-Style” like its 2014.

NEW LYRIC VIDEO CREATED BY HE IS LEGEND FAN
Last month Tragic Hero Records announced a contest where fans could create a lyric video for the new He Is Legend single “Something Witchy,” with one winner being chosen as the official lyric video for the song.
After much deliberation it came down to two entries. Tragic then left it up to He Is Legend fans to vote on the winner which resulted in the entry from Daniel Lofthouse being crowned the official lyric video. Lofthouse had this to say, “Thank you so much, it’s amazing! Just to be given the opportunity to be involved with a band that I’ve loved for years is something I never thought possible. In terms of making the video, for me it was just a case of capturing that ethereal psychedelic tone imbued in He Is Legend’s music. Thanks again for even running this competition. It’s been hard work, but it was more than worth it!”

WIRE: COLLIN HERRING’S NEW TRACK “PSYCHOPATHS” VIA AMERICAN SONGWRITER
Some Knives is Collin Herring’s fifth studio effort, yet it’s his first in nearly five years. “This album has been done for a lot longer than it seems,” the Texas singer-songwriter admits. “Most of the process was coordinating dates and small sessions here and there. Producer and drummer Matt Pence (Centro-matic) was able to hear the demos and the rest was just making it happen. We liked working with Matt and after some discussion about the initial recordings, it was a no brainer that he was going to mix this record as well. We didn’t want anything lost in translation on this project.”
