Talk about life imitating satirical art — Penn Jillette’s magical powers now apparently include the power of ironic timing. “Clay Aiken by Penn Jillette,” the new song and video by the Las Vegas legend which spotlights his recent appearance on “Celebrity Apprentice,” includes phrases about “Apple jobs overseas/Dormitory living/working factories” — all very relevant in light of last week’s riot spurred by bad working conditions at the Apple Foxxconn Plant in Chengdu, China. The Want China Times reported that as many as 1,000 workers threw trash, chairs, bottles and destroyed public facilities in a clash that broke out at a male dormitory for Foxconn employees. The 120,000 employee factory, which manufactures parts for the iPad 4 and iPhone 5, has been criticized by the Chinese watchdog group SCACOM for “limited freedoms, inhumane treatment and unsafe conditions. The iPad and iPhone are specifically mentioned by Jillette in the song, written by the magician, bestselling author and entertainer, along with successful veteran writer/producers Denny Randell and Biddy Schippers. Randell has written many classic hits and three of his songs are featured in the Tony Award winning show “Jersey Boys.”
