Doug Prescott, an Americana/Country rock singer/songwriter from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, has been garnering some serious critical acclaim for his new CD release “The Journey & the Deep Blue Sea”, which features an all-star cast that reads like a who’s who of Americana and country music. Backing Doug up on the disc are Craig Fuller (known for his work with Pure Prairie League and Little Feat), Will McFarlane (Bonnie Raitt’s former guitarist), Allyn Love (Steve Wariner and Patti Lovelace), Tony Bowman (Edgar Winter), and Martin Parker (played with Vince Gill).
Part of the interest in Doug’s release has been because of his bluesy rock lead single “It’s About Oil”, the one track on “The Journey & the Deep Blue Sea” that stands out as unapologetically political. When Doug isn’t playing music, he is Doug Guild; president and CEO of the ecological consulting group Prescott Environmental Associates. Not content to simply fight corruption, Prescott also ignores the usual boundaries of roots music, incorporating blues, funk, soul, jazz, and rock to make “The Journey & the Deep Blue Sea” an interesting crossover album.
