CEE-LO GREEN TALKS “FORGET YOU”

Cee-Lo Green knew he liked “Forget You” when he recorded it, but wasn’t’ sure that the label or the masses would be on board. During his Vh1 Storytellers on Tuesday night, he said the song was born out of frustration at his label, who were not happy with the songs he was recording for his Lady Killer album.   Cee-Lo told us the success of “Forget You” far exceeded his expectations.    

“Forget You” scored Cee-Lo a GRAMMY for Best Urban Alternative Performance back in February.   Vh1 Storytellers: Cee-Lo Green airs Friday, May 20th.

JUSTIN BIEBER ON THE CHARTS

One year ago, Justin Bieber was on top of the album chart with My World 2.0.   The album was released 56 weeks ago and is Bieber’s best-selling record, shifting over 2.6-million copies to date.   My World 2.0 is currently number 21 on the Billboard album chart, his Never Say Never — Remixes is at number 22, while My Worlds Acoustic drops nearly 40 spots to 119 and his debut My World, which has shifted over 1.8-million copies, falls 30 spots to number 151.   Bieber is currently the only solo artist to have four albums in the top 200 on the Billboard album chart.  

JUSTIN BIEBER: FAR FROM HOME

After his much-talked about trip to Israel, Justin Bieber performed in Malaysia on Thursday then took off for Down Under.   He kicks off the Australian leg of his tour in Brisbane on Tuesday.   Bieber will perform in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth over the course of ten days, before heading to the Philippines and Japan, where this leg of the tour will end in Tokyo on May 19th.  

JUSTIN BIEBER TOPS NINE MILLION FOLLOWERS

Justin Bieber has over nine-million followers on Twitter.   The 17-year-old hit the mark on Thursday night and took to Twitter after his show in Malaysia to celebrate, writing,   “9 MILLION!!! I LOVE YOU PEOPLE!!!”   He is heading to Australia for the next two weeks before closing out his My World Tour in the Philippines and Japan.

TOP RADIO SONGS OF 2011

Rihanna has scored the most Top 40 radio play this year.   According to Mediabase, her hits like “S&M,” “California King Bed” and “(Only Girl) In the World” collected over 218-thousand spins so far in 2011.   Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, P!nk and Ke$ha round out the top five.

THE LONELY ISLAND PREPS NEW ALBUM

Next month, Saturday Night Live’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, otherwise known as The Lonely Island, will be releasing their second album, Turtleneck and Chain.   The album features Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, Akon, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. The first single off it is “I Just Had Sex,” featuring Akon, which sold more than 700-thousand copies.   The video has been seen viewed over 80-million times on YouTube.   Turtleneck and Chain will arrive in stores and online retailers on May 10th

ENRIQUE IGLESIAS IS EN FUEGO

Enrique Iglesias leads all artists with 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards nominations, including ones for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and more.   His ninth studio album, Euphoria, has spawned the hits “I Like It,” which has sold over three-million copies, and “Tonight,” which has shifted over one million.   The latter marks Enrique’s eighth single to reach number one on the Billboard Dance Chart, surpassing Michael Jackson and Prince.   The Billboard Latin Music Awards take place on Thursday at the University of Miami’s Bank United Center at 8 PM.   Enrique will close his Euphoria Party Tour two nights later in Pensacola, Florida.  

J-LO TALKS GAGA

On Jennifer Lopez’s forthcoming album, Love?, the American Idol judge had a little help from Lady Gaga.   Lopez told Rolling Stone that the effort actually features two songs that were co-written by the pop star, and that she thinks Gaga is a “great songwriter.”   Love? is due out on May 3rd.

ADELE’S ALTER EGO

We all know about Beyonce’s alter-ego of “Sasha Fierce,” but did you know that Adele has one too?   The singer-songwriter told Rolling Stone magazine about being “Sasha Carter,” a mix between Beyonce and June Carter.   In fact, Adele said that she invented her alter-ego after a meeting with Beyonce.   Read more at RollingStone.com.

It’s hard to believe that May is just around the corner. Tons of albums will be released next month, so we thought we’d fill you in on all the new music on the way. KINGS OF LEON’S TALIHINA SKY: AN INTIMATE LOOK AT ONE OF AMERICA’S MOST LOVED BANDS

Three members of Kings of Leon, brothers Caleb, Jared and Nathan Followill, were in New York City on Thursday night for the world premiere of their documentary, Talihina Sky. The incredible film takes fans on a journey from the boys’ childhoods as sons of a travelling preacher to their super stardom. In the film, we meet many members of their family through intimate interviews, including some with their parents and grandparents. The band allowed cameras to capture everything from their family reunions in Tennessee, to Nathan’s wedding, to their drug use and to the huge fights between the band members. The documentary gives fans incredible insight into the journey that the group has taken from poverty to being one of the biggest bands in the world. It’s a must-see for not only Kings of Leon fans, but also for music fans in general. The movie does not yet have a release date, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
