Americana/country singer-songwriter Jayce Turley just released a stellar new album, “Broke Down.” With twangy nods to country roots, coupled with Americana-rock zest and drive, the album spins tales laced with maturity far beyond Turley’s chronological age. He recently sat down with @skopemag to talk about this gripping collection of songs.
@skopemag: Tell us about your amazing new album.
Jayce Turley: “Broke Down” is a collection of songs I wrote over the past two years since the debut of my EP, “The Opening Act.” I was inspired to get in the studio and try a style of music I hadn’t showcased to the world yet but had been working on with my full band for the past few years.
@skopemag: Tell us about the process of putting this album together – writing, studio time, etc.
Jayce: My favorite part about the production of this album was my time spent with my bandmates at Sneak Attack Studios in Lexington, Kentucky. Jason Groves was extremely hospitable, and we had an amazing few weeks with him.
@skopemag: Do you have a favorite song on the album? What makes it your favorite?
Jayce: My favorite song on this album is the title track, “Broke Down,” mostly because it’s based on a true story. Other songs on this album are loosely based on a real event, but this one is the most truthful.
@skopemag: How did you come up with your album title?
Jayce: We named it after the song “Broke Down.” The album is a collection of songs that maybe makes you feel this way or lets you know you’re not alone in feeling broken down. I hope the listener feels that they’re not the only one who constantly goes through trial and error. We all experience it, but we always come out on top.
@skopemag: Can fans see you on tour this summer? Where will you be performing?
Jayce: I don’t have a set tour yet, but I’ll be all over the East Coast mainly in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Tennessee. We’re hoping to hit Tulsa, Oklahoma for some shows as well!
