“The Raven” by The R Train is inspired by the iconic poem of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe. As Streaming Audio and Video it explores how grief can overcome a person’s ability to live in the present and engage with society. During the course of the storyline, Edgar is unable to forget his long lost love Lenore and it drives him to despair and madness. Her ghost repeatedly appears to him as a haunting hallucination, and her spirit confronts him in the form of a Raven.
The R Train Band is part of the New Wave Of Classic Rock. They appeal to the huge group of people, who have been relegated to seeing nostalgia acts, by giving them Fresh New Music.They have a dynamic approach with each song varying in style. “The Raven” is no exception, sounding like a cross between Tom Petty and REM, perhaps with a small bit of Rush included. Jeffrey Black does seem to channel Petty in voice and on guitar. Mike Annese (on Drums) and Rob Annati (on Bass) form a solid grooving rhythm section. The song climbs up the ladder and explodes in 3 verses and a solo, with a coasting middle eight. A well executed fitting tribute to the poem and the man.
