Today, rising Watts, CA rapper TruCarr and Atlanta rapper Rich the Kid release their music video for “Lose My Mind,” TruCarr’s hypnotic single produced by JBFlyBoi. The track will be a part of his upcoming debut project Based On a Tru Story, releasing via 100 Ent/eOne in March 2021. In the mind-bending visual directed by LOUIEKNOWS, Tru and Rich the Kid go on a journey through extravagant LA mansions, churches, and trippy hallucinations where beautiful women dance in body paint.

“With a song like this, built in layers, at various points along the road you look around and go: what is this? Where is the composition? Sometimes you end up drawing the blueprints of the house after it’s fully been built,” says Mills about “Just Wrong.” That process touches every song on the record, which typically began with Palladino’s own melodic and rhythmic language and developed outward with references shared by the two musicians from West African and Cuban music, funk, jazz, and English folk.

Born Aaron Earl Livingston, Little first came to international prominence with his self-titled debut which was released in 2015 on ANTI- Records. While Little’s collaborations with The Roots and RJD2 had already helped him make a name for himself by that point in his adopted hometown of Philadelphia, critics on both sides of the pond were quick to recognize the unique power of Little’s solo recordings, which stripped the past for parts that could be reconstituted into something wholly new and original. She worked with a few extra hands on the record – members of U.S. Girls, Aquakultre and Scott Hardware contributed, as well as esteemed Toronto producer, Steve Chahley (Badge Èpoque Ensemble, Kathryn Williams) – but the fact that this is solely down to her is pretty representative of how deeply personal this record is to Bezic, emerging as an unraveling of her views on mental health and the role which social media/the internet can play in damaging it.

The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn to release comic book “All These Perfect Crosses”
Comic book retailer Neighborhood Comics (Savannah, GA) has announced All These Perfect Crosses, the first comic book release from its publishing imprint. The All These Perfect Crosses comic combines the lyrics of singer/songwriter Craig Finn (The Hold Steady) interpreted by the artistic talents of comic book creator Andrew Greenstone. All These Perfect Crosses arrives in-stores March 3 in two formats, a traditional comic book and hardcover deluxe edition graphic novel with bonus material, and is available for preorder now.
Sara admits that she initially felt conflicted about making a children’s record until she realized that perhaps this album could impact a young listener in the same manner as the music from her own childhood affected her. The nostalgic and gentle Under the Pepper Tree offers a comforting record for those moments as daily rhythms fade into nightly rituals — and when a child’s imagination comes to life. “I want this album to be a place of calm, imagination, and relief,” Sara says. “Some days are perfect and things are a dream and make you feel like a superhero. About the song, Quick states: ” “Circles” is about filtering out the feedback of others and just living inside yourself, even if that isn’t always the easiest place to be. I have trouble doing that—I have had this lifelong compulsion to be perceived as ‘good,’ even to people who I don’t think are ‘good!’ The particular kind of depression I was in when I wrote this song, though, gave me some relief from that at times. It was much more difficult to care about pleasing people. There are a handful of external voices that appear in the song—advice-givers, pedantic men, crust punks—who are kind of gently ignored. It is definitely a sad song but it is also about freedom.”

Quiet Canyons shares indie-folk single “Panicked Mistakes”
Following the release of debut single “We Overflow”, Quiet Canyons, the new project from singer-songwriter Tim Willams, shares “Panicked Mistakes” out today. The song is an on edge, acoustic number centered around working through self-doubt. On the track, Williams is able to make an acoustic guitar sound heavy, a nice juxtaposition to his soft-toned vocals. Reuben Koops | ‘Like the Movies’ – NEW SINGLE
After a three year hiatus, Reuben Koops is back with a stunning new single Like the Movies, due for release on December 10. The modest, yet captivating acoustic track is a departure from more recent band-oriented material; back to his singer/songwriter roots.
Speaking of the creative process, Reuben explains, “this song was about relating to some of my earlier songs that were just acoustic guitar and vocals; keeping those elements at the forefront. Songs have to be strong enough that they don’t need too many bells and whistles to be ‘a good song’. I worked with Jack McLaine (Sumner) to engineer the track. We recorded as little as possible and relied on those organic elements. I think we’ve been able to achieve what we wanted whilst still featuring some great musicians on the track to support it”.

Last week, singer-songwriter Jensen McRae tweeted a clip of herself playing the imagined first few lines of a Phoebe Bridgers song from a potential album in 2023, spoofing on the Bridgers impeccable word play. The well-postured clip caught the attention of Bridgers and shortly thereafter, the clip of the 23 year old LA native’s tribute went viral, catching the attention of artists and celebrities and streaming over 2.3M times. With the encouragement of her fans, McRae went into the studio with executive producer Rahki (Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, EarthGang, Kari Faux, Syd, Rejjie Snow, Sampa The Great etc) and wrote and recorded a full version of “Immune”, out now.
