Duncan Sheik Releases “Fake Plastic Trees” from New Album ‘Live at the Cafe Carlyle’
Today, singer, songwriter, and composer Duncan Sheik released a cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees,” taken from his upcoming live album Live at the Cafe Carlyle (out December 4th via Sneaky Records / Missing Piece Records). “It’s just one of those songs I feel like I can sink my teeth into,” Sheik told HuffPost. “It’s just a really poignant idea ― how contemporary urban life alienates us from everything real. It captured a moment in time that I just carry around.” Accompanying the single is a live session filmed at Sheik’s Sneaky Studios in Garrison, NY.

As a girls’ anthem with a darkly humorous message, mannequin rap duo FEMM’s acclaimed song ‘Fxxk Boyz Get Money’ found an audience with teens and influencers in the United States, quickly spreading around Europe, South America and Asia. FEMM’s debut album ‘Femm-Isation’ brought Japanese female rap to a whole new audience, reaching the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums chart in the US.
Back in October, fans of mannequin rap duo FEMM puzzled over the meaning of the “404 not found” error message that appeared when accessing their official website. This was followed by weeks of deafening silence from FEMM’s official channels, and then the sudden appearance of their brand-new song ‘Level Up feat. Duke of Harajuku’ earlier this month. Today (November 20), FEMM release their new six-song EP – and, of course, its title is ‘404 Not Found’.

“Cypress Grove came to be because of a picture I accidentally took out of my moms car window. It had been a very long day and we were driving home, I didn’t even realize what I had photographed till I got home. As soon as I saw the picture of the Cypress Grove road sign, I knew there was something special about it. That one picture sparked the idea for every song on the EP and was the overall driving force for the whole thing.”

Contemporary jazz guitarist Les Sabler finds “Tranquility” in a new old guitar
The suggestion came from two-time GRAMMY winner Paul Brown who has produced dozens of No. 1 hits. When contemporary jazz guitarist Les Sabler entered Brown’s Funky Joint studio near Los Angeles to begin tracking, Brown, also a guitarist, recommended that Sabler swap out his trusty guitar in favor of Brown’s vintage Gibson Johnny Smith model. The electric guitar that has innate acoustic qualities and balances tone and sustain gave Sabler an entirely new sound, which he used to create his eighth album, “Tranquility,” dropping January 29 on New Vista Records.
GOOD BISON blends indie surf rock & hip hop for “Can’t Predict the Weather”
“In Miami, it can be incredibly sunny one minute and the next it’s basically hurricane weather,” says Pablo Alvarez, the mastermind behind the alternative genre mash-up that is Good Bison about part of the inspiration for “Can’t Predict the Weather,” his brand new single from his upcoming EP Scattered Storms due in January 2021. “Los Angeles is not like that at all. It’s much easier to predict the weather there than in South Florida.”

Right after the last Bodies of Water record, half of the group that made it suddenly became a diaspora; they left for Seattle, Iowa City, and (for reasons still unknown) Henderson, Nevada. Meredith and David remained, and when the time came to record new songs, they asked some old friends to help. Kyle Gladden, who had retired years ago after helping found Bodies of Water, came to his senses and rejoined the group. Alice Lin didn’t so much join up, as double down on the work she’d already been doing with us off and on for years. And the four of us got going.

Moxi’s latest single ‘Blame It’, releasing on Friday, November 13 with CatBeach Music, is “a peek into my brain”, explains Anna. “I tell friends a lot that I wish they could just be in my mind for a second because it’s so insane in there lol. There’s a lot of chaos, self sabotage, weird ideas, and a lot of beautiful things too… It can get very dark but it’s also a lot of fun in there. I wrote this song after a fight with Andy. Almost every fight we have is pretty much caused by me and I’m usually the one who behaves horribly before, during and after. I somehow found an absolute angel to marry who accepts me completely as I am, he doesn’t try to change me, he loves me truly despite how absolutely insane I am. I’ve been a hostage to the noise in my mind and I’ve also had control over it and it seems to fluctuate still but lately I have more days where it’s the later. Blame It is about the inner dialog that goes on in my mind on a pretty regular basis. I fight the voices to an extent but you gotta keep some of them in for the art. Hold out long enough till I start seeing things again. ‘Blame It’ is a result of that. xx”
