Las Palabras (aka !!!’s Rafael Cohen) reflects on his immigrant experience on “Condesa”
Last month, Rafael Cohen announced his debut LP under his new alias Las Palabras, to be released on October 23rd on Brassland (The National, Bartees Strange, This Is The Kit). A veteran of an array of notable bands over the past 20 years, perhaps best known as a core member of !!! (chk chk chk), and for his work on releases from artists like The Rapture and Q and Not You, this album is a dramatic change of pace from Cohen’s earlier output: an album of songs in Spanish (Cohen’s first language) inspired by the music he grew up hearing in his childhood home.

After that he became more focused as a solo rap artist but still frequently collaborated with the reggae bands Fear Nuttin Band, Danny Pease, and The Regulators. His strong work ethic and drive led him to open up for national artists KRS-One, Sean Price (RIP), Pharoahe Monch, ILL Bill, and Mickey Avalon & Dirt Nasty.
Marsh readies debut Anjunadeep album ‘Lailonie’

SURF MESA SHARES OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR “SOMEWHERE”
Their spirits are drawn to an isolated house and a mysterious woman – played by model/actress Havana Liu – who lures them inside. Director Dane Ray (Nathan Bajar, Quiet Luke, Delicate Steve) teams up with director of photography Jesse Bronstein to evoke sleek 80’s thriller films that mirror the track’s pulsating out-of-body essence, using double dolly shots to simulate ghost-like movement. The video, which PAPER premiered earlier today, was shot in the historic town of Stony Point, north of New York City, where centuries ago, the Battle of Stony Point proved to be a turning point in the Revolutionary War.

Heavily favoring live piano playing and acoustic instruments over samples, he aims to bring melodic and rhythmic depth to a genre filled with stock standard drum beats and repetitive one off loops, whilst still maintaining the broad appeal and nuance that these relaxing genres are known for.

GAB DE LA VEGA releases new video “I Still Believe”
Gab De La Vega presents “I Still Believe”, his third video from his latest album “Beyond Space And Time”, released earlier this year.
The Italian born musician grew up in the punk and hardcore scenes but he found a way to express himself through softer sounds in the last decade. In February of 2020, PIMMIT HILLS was in Baltimore with J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Government Issue) at the board in the middle of recording what they thought would be their debut full-length album. But soon after, the ongoing global pandemic was declared, and the band was left with no choice but to halt work on the project and regroup. Instead of holding out for an indefinite amount of time to finish the massive record, the band reworked their plan and created their debut EP, Heathens & Prophets. With four new songs, PIMMIT HILLS conjures even more of an organic sense of melody and vibrance, bringing the tracks to an even more emotive and bluey rock territory than the former act.

R&B-jazz singer-songwriter Selina Albright makes a powerful statement against social injustice
Like so many Black people, R&B-jazz singer-songwriter Selina Albright is tired and her fatigue has nothing to do with becoming a mother for the first time earlier this year, which was the subject of her latest single to hit the charts, “Discovering.” No, Albright’s exhaustion and discouragement stems from “seeing videos of my brothers and sisters dying in cold blood, their deaths rooted in misplaced fear, their murderers allowed to live freely.” She cowrote and coproduced her forthcoming single, “Holding On,” to call out social injustice and the urgent need for reform. The single drops October 16 and will be promoted at urban adult contemporary and smooth jazz radio formats.
QUEEN NAIJA SHARES ALTERNATE VIDEO FOR “PACK LITE”
Shortly after the single’s release, Queen became the highest charting female on Apple Music’s R&B Songs chart. “Pack Lite,” which was produced by Oak (Lizzo, Alessia Cara), is from Queen’s forthcoming debut album.
