Graham Bodenham – ‘Fantasy Girl’

‘Fantasy Girl’ is a pop rock story which describes a relationship with an amazing woman with many desirable attributes, such that the author cannot believe his luck. The lyrics describe the woman as “too good to be true” which leads us to wonder if she is real or maybe just a figment of the imagination. The video concept was to create a montage of about 60 short, unrehearsed, unscripted cameo shots of real women in normal or natural daily situations to provide a counterpoint to the impossible expectations conjured up by the fantasy image of the song lyrics. The subjects were women I encountered randomly over a six month period in Edinburgh; on the street, in the museum, in markets and in parks. With no studio, no Photoshop, no special make-up and no special effects, the women were invited to express themselves however they chose. The resulting video shows that we are surrounded by strong, confident women, demonstrating a rich diversity of styles.

TIA, Releases Debut EP with Heavyweight Support – ‘Do It Over’

Hot on the heels of the unveiling of her debut single Coke & Mentos last month, Sydney singer-songwriter Tia Beale’s debut five-track EP, TIA, has just hit streaming sites, with a physical CD release, distributed by MGM, also available. Recorded in collaboration with music industry veteran Steve Clisby (who has jammed with Jimi Hendrix and played alongside Kool & The Gang and Chaka Khan), who also acted as producer, Tia’s EP traverses a variety of genres, from the gentle balladry of Do It Over, to the dance floor pop of Coke & Mentos, synth and syncopated beats of Synergy, and hip-hop-flavoured Keep On Coming Back. The forthcoming single is Do It Over, a track which though upbeat melodically, speaks lyrically of the devastating loss of a close friend of Tia’s to suicide.

Mush share new single “Fear Index”

“Fear Index” is a crisp one minute forty seconds, juxtaposing lead-singer Dan Hyndman’s existential woes against absurdist guitar wrangling. Taken from their new EP “Great Artisanal Formats”, Dan Hyndman explains how the EP came to be:

We felt like we wanted to be back in the studio ASAP after finishing “3D Routine”. This was a strange record because we had the idea for it, in terms of format, before writing any of the songs. I’ve always enjoyed the early punk budget 7″ E.P’s and also I’ve always wanted to do a Record Store Day release. It’s weirder than the album, very much a throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks approach. Which with our sensibilities means it’s ended up more guitar laden and busier than ever. Lyrically more abstract than record, bit of a breather from the politics.

Low Hummer share new video for ‘The Real Thing’ – Watch Now

Guitarist and singer Daniel Mawer: “Obviously a lot of our shows over the next few months are cancelled, we had so many exciting gigs lined up so we’re obviously gutted but we spent most of last year in isolation making music so we’re ready to do that all over again. The main thing is the health of everyone concerned with the festivals, so many of them involve D.I.Y independent promoters and event organisers and we wish them all the best as they navigate through such tricky postponements. We hope that by Autumn we’ll be out playing again, we’re already itching to get going, and it’ll feel like a really poignant moment when we get back on stage again”

Literate, loft-quaking, new-wave indie: STONE’S ‘LEAVE IT OUT’

Poetry from a tense 3am taxi queue and paint-stripping guitar lines make the debut single from emergent Liverpool agit-new-wavers, STONE an essential window into the discordant feelings of today’s cut-free twenty-somethings. OUT NOW, LEAVE IT OUT finds the prose-spitting tongue of front man, Finley Power, relay the electricity of late-night chaos and the insecurity of social-media-fuelled youth.
