“The kids attached to the imagery of the song– mirrors and duality. They wanted to embody different negative emotions, then break through a mirror to a “happy place” where they became positive emotions. They did everything; they made the costumes and props, and everyone wanted to act. The only thing I did was advise that they didn’t actually shatter a mirror, I taught them some special effects for that.
Johanne visited the class and the kids got really excited. I kept telling them that maybe a blog will write it up, but they didn’t know what a blog was. One girl said, “If it goes viral maybe we’ll be on the news!” If the news is reading this, here’s your chance.”

Aussie psych sisters Stonefield announce new album’s vinyl release; touring with King Gizzard
Australian desert psych quartet Stonefield are excited to give their new album BENT (out now digitally via Flightless / ATO) a physical release on August 9 on red vinyl. The band is comprised of four sisters — Amy, Hannah, Sarah and Holly Findlay — who started practicing together in their parents’ farm shed as teenagers and have only continued to rise in popularity since.
The album will hit stores shortly before the band joins King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and ORB for a North American Tour in August and September 2019. The tour includes a stop in Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, NYC’s Central Park SummerStage and Stubb’s in Austin, Texas. The dates will follow Stonefield’s own 37-date tour of Europe and the UK, which includes several festival stops at Desertfest, The Great Escape, Maifeld Derby, Freak Valley Festival, and Indie Rocket Festival.

New York reggae-pop band, The Big Takeover, have premiered the new video for their latest single, “Shy,” via Audiofemme. Fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer/songwriter Nee Nee Rushie, The Big Takeover blend Jamaican pop traditions with the spirit of Motown and uptown sophistication of the 21st-century retro soul and R&B revival scene. “Shy” is the first single from the band’s upcoming fifth album, Spilling Water, and was produced by David Baron (Meghan Trainor, The Lumineers, and Jade Bird). The new video finds the New York band starring as guests on a fictional 70s late-night show to perform their upbeat single. “The song has a retro pop vibe that pairs perfectly with the retro late-night show theme,” Rushie told Audiofemme, adding, “We knew we wanted to do a performance video, but the idea for a retro late-night show came from the director [Dino Davaros].”
