Girlhood’s This Will Make Sense In The End: Romantic Rollercoasters, Picnic Dates and Coffee-Shop Confessions

If your autumn playlist needs a serious dose of sun-soaked, soul-infused indie pop, Girlhood have you covered. The UK duo have just dropped their gorgeous new single ‘Picnic’ (out October 8th), and it’s the perfect appetizer for their highly anticipated upcoming album, This Will Make Sense In The End, dropping November 5th.

Fresh off their recent track ‘Lemon Aid’ – a radiant, dance-it-out invitation to surrender to the moment and lighten the weight of dark places – ‘Picnic’ takes a similarly clever approach.

Beneath its luminous soundscape, singer-songwriter and one half of Girlhood Natalie Holmes sugar-coats some surprisingly sharp, relatable anxieties: dodging alcohol-heavy evening dates in favor of daytime coffee, over-analyzing whether mutual chemistry actually exists, and handling the sinking realization of meeting more than one great person and having to choose.

The accompanying music video captures that exact contrast perfectly. It leans right into the track’s playful visual energy – starting out picture-perfect on the picnic blanket before dissolving into a little chaotic frenzy, before finally settling back down in the grass.

What makes ‘Picnic’ (and the larger album) so compelling is the creative chemistry between Holmes and producer/founder Christian Pinchbeck. After years of remote features following the departure of original vocalist Tiece back in 2014, This Will Make Sense In The End marks a true in-person reassembly for the project.

Reimagining lost soul records into fresh textures that drift between sun-drenched indie pop, sparse R&B, and cinematic acoustic confessionals centered around motifs of appetite, fruit, desserts, and hunger, it’s an album worth spinning once before inevitably being hooked.

This Will Make Sense In The End Is Out On November 5th.
