Blind Uncle Harry takes an unexpectedly spiritual turn on his new single “Shambala Warrior.” His self-described brand of “hillbilly hippie shreddin’ folk rock” has traditionally mixed rough-edged Americana with satire, social commentary and an almost deliberately unvarnished performance style. But this time, Harry constructs a psychedelic folk meditation around compassion, enlightenment and the possibility of transformation.

Blind Uncle Harry’s music has rarely depended upon pristine production or technical perfection. Much of its appeal comes from sounding spontaneous, human and slightly unruly. Shambala Warrior retains that character even while pushing into more atmospheric territory. The production therefore feels more interested in building a mood, and the instrumentation and psychedelic colors gather around the central rhythm rather than being arranged into something overly rigid.
