Singer and songwriter Lecia Louise demonstrates her versatility on “Strike To Ignite,” throwing blues, classic rock, country and soul onto the same fire and seeing what catches. Across eleven tracks, the multi-instrumentalist showcases blues-infused riffs, strong rhythm sections and backing vocals that give the record its weight. Yet what makes Strike To Ignite work is that the musicianship rarely feels like an end in itself. Louise may be able to shred, but these songs are ultimately built around personality.
That personality arrives immediately with “Love’s Fool,” a funky blues-rock opener about finally refusing to settle for someone who does not value you. Louise frames the song around self-respect rather than heartbreak, and the combination of guitar, organ and backing vocals makes its defiance feel celebratory rather than bitter.
“Woodstock” takes that sense of enthusiasm somewhere completely different. It is a loving, guitar-driven salute to the 1969 festival, name-checking figures including Hendrix, Santana, CCR and Sly and the Family Stone. Louise also keeps that reverence from becoming too serious as “One Man” swerves into country with a knowingly cheeky premise: if the perfect partner cannot provide everything she wants, perhaps she needs several men whose individual talents add up to one ideal candidate.
At the centre of the album sits “Hot Blooded Woman,” perhaps the song that most completely embodies the record’s title. It is unapologetic blues-rock swagger, full of fire, heat and explosive imagery, with Louise presenting desire as something she controls rather than something that happens to her.
The closing run becomes more emotionally exposed, as “Riding Through The Night” turns escape into elemental imagery, setting its narrator against thunder, lightning and surrounding clouds while insisting that nobody will hold her down. “My Everything” closes the album by exchanging defiance for longing. Written around distance and separation, it closes the album with someone prepared to cross oceans to get back to the person she loves.

After such a long journey to completion, Strike To Ignite sounds like an album about refusing to be extinguished. Relationships fail, touring becomes exhausting and plans go wrong, but another song always seems to emerge from the wreckage. Lecia Louise does not merely sing about resilience; across these eleven songs, she turns it into fuel.
