This is off-kilter music, a tonic for the rhythmically bored mixing elements of art rock, psych, and hip hop. It’s like Beck, The Birthday Party, Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, and MF Doom all crammed into one room in an East London flat. It’s Captain Beckheart’s Doomsday Party.
The new EP Art Machine is the second Percy Higgins release. The first was Don’t Rag on the Spider and laid the groundwork with a more 60’s inspired sound. In Art Machine this has given way to wilder, sample-like drums, heavier fuzz-bass, and in general a more RZA-like approach to the mix.
Stream the EP on Spotify or download it on Bandcamp from April 16.
