Tim Qualls Releases Stripped Version of Album ‘Feel’

Tasteful and stately, Tim Qualls shares his very soul with the powerful statement “Feel (Stripped).” He keeps things to the essentials – drum kick and soaring yet understated synthesizer sweeps- and they have a majesty even while retaining this approachability. Vocals are the core of the entire journey from which all else radiates. With these many different layers intermingling, they never appear to crowd, always maintaining a light, bright, and airy aspect. Every gesture is given lots of room to expand into an infinite space. Lots of the production feels so warm, adding to the allure. There is a sense of intimacy that adorns the whole album.

A late-night stance emerges on the throbbing beats and lonesome guitar riffs of “Stay.” “Forever” opts for a dream-pop flavor, and the chorus feels downright bluesy. Delicate melodies go for a toy box beauty as “Feel” explores a vast, empty space as he sings in a subdued, hushed, intimate awe. Crisp and clean is the gradual buildup of the blissful “Family Ties.” Slow-moving, like lost in a daydream, is the longing of “I swear to God I tried,” where the song has this engrossing cloud that swirls about. Faster-paced is the urbane sophistication and chord stabs of “This World.” “Grave” features classical strings that do a great job lifting the strong strum of the guitar. Post-rock and electronic effects work in unison with the churn of “Safe.” Pure love pours out of the finale of “Mine.”
