Survivors of the Kraken Unleashes ‘Amid Life Crises’

This isn’t your typical debut record by any means because three members from Survivors of the Kraken have been friends since high school.  Twenty years later, ‘Amid Life Crises’ is born and Survivors of the Kraken has risen to the top to conquer the musical universe.  Hailing from Rhode Island, Survivors of the Kraken started working on their sound in the early 2000’s with heavy influences stemming from the pop/punk scene.  With a name like Survivors of the Kraken, I am intrigued to find out more about this band and the new release ‘Amid Life Crises’.

The record features Allan Furtado on bass, Brian Decoteaux on drums/percussion, Justin Marra on guitars/vocals and Andy Davis on keyboard/synths on tracks two and six and backing vocals on tracks five & seven.  ‘Amid Life Crises’ was recorded at subModern Audio studio in Providence, RI and produced by Andy Davis and Justin Marra.  As a unit, Survivors of the Kraken has created a monster of an album as ‘Amid Life Crises’ is now upon us.

The record makes a big splash right out of the gates with “Dying on the Vine” where I am hearing rawness and no limitations.  Survivors of the Kraken invites you to live and let play as the group is jammin’ out like there is no tomorrow on “Dying on the Vine”.  Nothing appears to be “Out of Place” on the following number where everything seems to be in order and notes lining up nicely.  Survivors of the Kraken is playing like true champs of the musical sea on “Out of Place”.  On the next song, all chords are super tight and holding together this “Tattered Baggage” perfectly.    Track four, “Second Time Around”, offers up an enticing rhythm that will keep you on your toes the first time around.  Survivors of the Kraken are driven and determined on “All’s Not Meant For You” where the band proves to be a musical force.  Next, “Shadow of the Royal” supplies a grainy & gritty texture that captures your attention and imagination.  The band is standing tall as “Shadow of the Royal” is shining bright for the whole world to see.  It’s time to turn on “Ghost Lights” where there is nothing spooky here, but honestly is a scary, good time.  Turn up these “Ghost Lights” and don’t be scared!  Track eight, “Still Searching”, provides an intriguing melody that gets your mind racing and your ears buzzin’!  Moving along, “Empty Sky” fills the airwaves and hits you full blast where a rock-solid set can be heard by none other than Survivors of the Kraken.  I can honestly say that “Broken Sound” never sounded so good to me as Survivors of the Kraken ends on a high note.

Survivors of The Kraken has shared the stage with the likes of Kyodie, Blue Dream, Nymphidels, Senior Discount, No Plateau, The Pogs, Sweet Babylon and many more.  This band has a sound all of its own and can’t be duplicated.  Survivors of the Kraken plays for the love of music and ‘Amid Life Crises’ is making waves and stirring things up.  Survivors of the Kraken has risen and ‘Amid Life Crises’ has surfaced ready to take the world by storm.  SKOPE out limited edition vinyl LP records & CD’s that are available now, so go pick up your copy of ‘Amid Life Crises’ today!
