The Complaints exemplify high quality, indie rock music to the core! The Complaints are led by guitarist/front man Dean Petrella with bassist Chris Cruz and drummer Anthony Marotti. Musical influences range from Tom Petty and Radiohead to Cold Play and Matchbox Twenty. ‘Chasing Light’ is the fifth, full-length album for The Complaints and is extremely well-done.
As soon as you hit play, the listener gets sucked into the edgy, catchy sound on the title track “Chasing Light”. This rock number offers up a luminous presence showcasing The Complaints as a premiere band of today. Next, The Complaints are going straight to the top with “The Bottom” where this infectious groove will have you saying Bottom’s UP! Track three, “Let Heaven Fall”, is one fine performance overall where The Complaints are completely in sync and just feelin’ it all the way. Next, you receive a rock-solid set that has your ears buzzing with excitement on “That’s What You Get”.
The Complaints are out “Looking For Liars” and what we all discover is a pleasing sound that hooks us all in from start to finish. That statement is the God’s honest truth regarding “Looking For Liars” in all its glory. It’s time to dive into “The Ocean” where the music goes deep and the material provides much depth. The Complaints are making a BIG splash with “The Ocean”, so prepare to take the plunge and soak up all of the salty notes. Track seven, “Can’t Kill a Killer”, supplies a cool vibe that is blasting its way through your speaker box. The Complaints end with a terrific Instrumental version of “Let Heaven Fall”. One will hear wonderful instrumentation and a stellar arrangement on “Let Heaven Fall (Instrumental)” where the band is playing the role of Rock Angels.
The Complaints formed in Providence, RI and have played at some of the top music venues on the east coast including CBGB, Mercury Lounge, The Bitter End (NYC), Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel (Providence RI) and The Middle East (Boston). The Complaints have recorded with some of the biggest engineers/producers in the business: Chris Lord-Alge [Matchbox Twenty, Cold Play, Amy Winehouse, Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna], Shelley Yakus [Tom Petty, Don Henley, U2, Suzanne Vega] and Phil Greene [Dropkick Murphys, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Steve Earle, Mick Jagger]. They have also shared the stage with many national acts including Sugar Ray [w/ Mark McGrath], Gin Blossoms, Young the Giant, Train, Collective Soul, 3 Doors Down, Nickleback and Guster. The Complaints have won numerous awards to boot and the band is currently writing material for various soundtracks and continues to perform over 150 live shows a year.
